Ever hear of this?

I met a fellow detectorist on the beach with the old Excal. He said that if you place the coil on the ground and turn the threshold all the way up for about 2 min and then set it to just audible will make it find deeper items.

Any thoughts on this?

I only had mine for a few weeks, I set the sensitivity to about 12 o'clock and then turn it on the threshold the lowest level I can hear.

Thanks
Jon

Craziest thing i ever heard..... in fact i put my coil on the sand, turn the sensitivity down so it picks up LESS EMI and mineral noise before i turn the machine on. I dont know unless it creates some kind of VCO reducing outside interference.
