Ever notice the Xterra's...

Why is it that except for the Xterra site on this forum, you don't see much discussion or info about or on them. The AT Pro and Omega and MXT get all kinds of hits and the Xterra is not discussed and yet seems like for the money, it can't be beat considering the features, coil and frequency options and depth. Just curious why it isn't a more well liked machine.

I know the Xterra is a good machine. Could it be it's getting a little old?? I think this wonderful machine has been dissected so much there isn't much more to say. Though a few of the very knowledgeable users still come up with a hidden jewel now and then. However, there's always something to learn, (guess I just contradicted myself). This detector (for me) has been one of the most versatile machines I have ever owned.

Neither of which indicate to me that it isn't as "well liked".
On Find's Treasure Forums, Minelab does not have a general discussion forum such as Garrett, Whites, Tesoro, Teknetics or Bounty Hunter have. The Minelab forums are basically divided into separate models. Explorer users ask their questions on the Explorer forum, E-TRAC users have their discussions on the E-TRAC forum, Sovereign questions on the Sovereign/Excalibur forum, Quattro/Safari on their forum and X-TERRA is discussed here. On the other hand, the MXT is discussed at the MXT forum and the Whites Main Detecting forum. The Garrett ATPro is discussed in the ATPro forum, as well as the Garrett User's forum. Tesoro only has one forum for all their users. It covers all Tesoro makes and models. Teknetics only has one forum for all their models. Bounty Hunter only has one forum for all models. Nautilus only has one forum. And even the Fisher forums are broken down by "series" instead of by model.

In comparing the X-TERRA forum with the MXT forum or the AT Pro forum, we must keep in mind how long the detectors have been in the marketplace. The first X-TERRA was introduced in the fall of 2005, if I remember correctly. So far, the X-TERRA forum has gathered over 37,358 posts. The MXT has been around since 2002 and it's Findmall forum has gathered fewer posts than the X-TERRA forum, currently coming in with 31,085. In the short time the Garrett AT Pro has been out, it's forum has only gathered 556 posts. So even though the X-TERRA activity here may seem "slow", the X-TERRA forum has gathered more posts than the MXT forum and ATPro forum combined. As a matter of fact, if you check the Findmall index, you'll discover that the only (Findmall) forum (dedicated to a particular series of detector) with more posts than the X-TERRA is the Explorer forum. Most of the others don't come close.

I also believe many of the X-TERRA questions are answered in the FAQFAQ section. And the FAQFAQ section is something that none of the other forums offer. I have to admit, however, the FAQFAQ section is a double edged sword in that it provides a great service in reducing duplicate discussions while at the same time might give the impression that the forum doesn't have as much activity.

If the popularity of a specific site gives an indication of how "well liked" a particular detector might be, when you compare the number of posts generated here on the X-TERRA forum and take into account the facts I provided above as far as forum categories is concerned and number of posts made to each forum, it appears to me that the X-TERRA is "well liked" by a lot of great folks.

Some new coils would liven the place up a little. I agree with you Digger, that FAQFAQ page you guys put together eats up alot of posts before they even get started.

With many new detectors, you will get many questions on how to set them up or program them to certain ground conditions. I think the Xterras are very simple to setup and operate. I have had many detectors and two of the Xterra series(505 and 70) and in my opinion they are very easy to use and learn. With their ease of use and above average performance, a person who has never swung a detector before will have an Exterra humming in no time. No hundred hour learning curve with this detector.
