The orange vest is a good idea, also a white construction hard hat and set an orange cone out near a junction box - tell them you are trying to trace under ground utilities - it worked for me

Had a young lad ( about 5 ) come up to me and say watch ya doin, I said the obvious and showed him how it worked , we got a signal , and he said what is it ,, I said not sure thats the fun of it,, we dug and out came a 5 cent piece,, I gave it to him and he went off the happiest young bloke for miles,,,
