Everyone Needs the Deus Silver Vacuum

Today's finds were easy pickin's for the Deus at this very small site. The Deus handled the nails and iron very well--all the silver rang in at 4-6 inches and there was no doubt there was silver under the coil before I dug (with the exception of two or three holes with wheats that came up instead of expected silver)--more about that in a minute. One hole contained two mercs and I thought I'd be digging a silver dime and a wheat based on what I was seeing and hearing...glad it was two dimes instead! The Walker had a slightly bent 4-inch rusty nail next to it, and other than causing me to pinpoint off a bit, it was a solid half signal...I had already dug the Kennedy half (my first), so I was thinking No Way! Two halves in one hunt is a first for me! As a matter of fact, this is my biggest one day silver total in 14 years of hunting. The only iffy signal today was the indian head penny (1881)--it was a little choppy and rang in the mid to high 50s. For today's hunt I used a 4K program with the following settings:

4K
Disc 6
Full tones
React 2 / Silencer 0
Sens 82
GB 78
Notch 6-30

All silvers rang up in their respective known silver zones--dimes bounced between 73-81. Halves bounced between high 80s and mid 90s.

For most of my targets today I switched between this program and the bottlecap program CZ recently posted (http://www.findmall.com/read.php?83,2076844)--I did this before I dug each hole. The difference was quite significant. I used the following modified GM Power settings:

4K
Disc 20
Sens 83
React 2 - Silencer 0

I pretty much had the same results CZ posted but there was one other significant difference between the two programs: with the bottlecap program there was very little bouncing of VDIs on targets for the depth I was finding coins today. Whereas a merc would bounce significantly between 73 and 81 in my program, with the bottlecap program the VDI did very little bouncing...the merc for example would hit at a solid 77 for the most part--on occasion the VDI might stray to 76 or 78...so it was a pleasure to see a very stable VDI supported with a crisp clear silver signal. Both programs gave strong sounds, but the bottlecap program isolated and "popped" the coins (as CZ said) which made for an overall much better signal. Had I switched over to this program on the three holes I was expecting silver but got wheats instead, I'm almost certain I would have had a better handle on what was in the ground.

Because targets were relatively shallow for the Deus at this site, I need to do further testing in a more trashy environment with targets a little deeper. I'll post any updates to this program, but I am very encouraged with the results.

Forgot to add a mod to the bottlecap program: Notched 93-99. While my program allowed the halves to reach up to mid to high 90s, the notch in the bottlecap program forced the VDI to a stable 89-91 and the tone remained very clear on both halves. As CZ said, the bottlecap program may chop at a silver dollar some, but should still be a dig signal. That's one of the reasons I hunted with my program vs the bottlecap program--just in case there was a silver dollar there, I didn't want to take a chance on missing it.

Nice finds and info. Thanks

Geez beeps... is that the best you can do... only 13 silvers and an indian from that small front yard? You've got to put more effort into it!:lmfao:

Man, I'm speechless. WOW, what a sweet, productive yard! Congratulations and thanks for the info, pictures, and post. Just awesome!:clapping:

Thanks guys, it was a great feeling to dig all those silvers!

Well, your best day just obliterated my total silver count for the last 2 years. Congrats! That is just an amazing haul. I gotta start asking for permission and hitting something other than public parks that have been worked over for years. Also, thanks for posting your comparison notes on the 2 programs. Look forward to reading more about that as you continue working it.

I use the 9" coil.

Silver whisperer........

Great finds and great findings....So your saying the bottlecap program eliminates the need for yours other than for dollars?

Hey DKTucson I am in Az as well and most of the 4khz programs been working with settings as set....What issues you finding?

I was just testing the bottlecap program out...I liked it very much and am hopeful it'll fair well in trashy sites with rusty bottlecaps and good targets at depth (5-8 inches). I use my 4K program for conditions like I was in...the settings are a little more open and allows me to hear a little more without the filtering of the bottlecap program. If I was strictly cherrypicking at a site where targets are no deeper than 5 inches, I might use the bottlecap program...but since this site was 1890s, I wanted to hear what was deeper than the relatively newer coins I was pulling. I did dig some larger relics and square nails at 7-8 inches...just no coins at that depth. The indian was the only oddball in terms of age in my finds.

What is the deepest silver you dug with good stable I.D. ? It's nice to see another machine besides Etrac's pulling multiple silver out of the ground!

At this site no silver was deeper than 5 inches. At this site, with maybe the exception of two of the dimes which were collocated with nails, just about any detector would have found them [I think].

I've only had the Deus for about a month and a half and while I've found plenty with the Deus during that time, none of the silver has been beyond 6 inches...which is normal for my area in the midwest. But there have been many, many times when I've pulled targets masked by trash...nails, bottlecaps, etc.

That's one awesome silver haul..
Congrats to you! Just got moved in this weekend, now need to unpack and get swinging again....no nickels tho?
