Hi
I have a problem. When I use the backlight on my explorer xs then I can`t hear the threshold tone.when I turn the light of the tone returns.
Yester day I burried a silver roman denar at seven inches.
I've tested it with 5 other people who have explorers and they detected the coin but mine didn't at all.So we switched the coils but my xs still didn't detect the coin.have any of you ever had this problem before?please help!

Antonio,
Remove the battery pack. With a good flash light look into the battery compartment.
You should see a green board with two spring battery contacts. The green board between the spring contacts should be clean and a soft matte finish.
If you see discoloration or some foreign material, get a long artist's brush and clean the area especial between the spring contacts.
Since you have access to other minelabs, look at those and compare to yours. Good luck and happy hunting.

Before you spend your money on a new detector, try this.Take your machine out of auto sens and put it in manual sens. Also turn off fast.If it runs smothly at 24-26 sens run it there.I run mine set up like this and have no problems. And I know for sure I loose 2 ins. of depth when I switch to auto sens.
