EX II erroneous readings(help needed !!!)

Hello.

Location is a vineyard.
My first time with exII and factory present settings(adj. manual sensitive).
I sweep the coil slowly and i have a digital reading 7,21 and a deep of about 20 cm.
i Pinpoint the object and I dig. After I dig there is NOTHING to see !!!!.I request again a pinpoint is this position Nothing. I search the soil who have a diged and have the reading of 7,21 AGAIN with a deep of about 5 cm, i search the soil carefully but NOTHING... ONLY SOIL.

I CHANGE MORE TIMES the position withing the VINEYARD and i have more good readings such 10,25 , 0,31 , 6, 15 and so IF I dig ARE NOTHING TO SEE !!!!!??????. ONLY SOIL

IF I CHECK THE EXII IN A CLEAR POSITION SEEMS TO BE ALL RIGHT(COIN TEST).

HAVE I, A HIGH MINERALISED SOIL????!!!!!

CAN A HIGH MINERALISED SOIL CAUSE A "POSITIVE" DIGITAL READING ????

make sure you dont have any metal in your shoes, you might be picking up those.. make sure you keep the coil away from your feet if you have any metal in the shoes

hello Jim.

I had sport shoes on. There are nothing from metal.
I had check also the space between coil and coilcover is all right.

Possible must i reset my exII ??(my first check(detect) was in my home to check if the exii(new) was ok, possible has the exII a saturation!!!???)

Your problem is common to many just starting out with the explorer. Often people get a good signal and start to dig and then lose the signal, this can happen when you disturb the dirt, it generally means you need to dig deeper.

If you remove all the dirt and the signal is in the pile next to the hole you may just be having trouble finding the target in all the dirt. Best way to solve this is to get a pinpointer probe, probably the X-1. Sometimes the target is encased in dirt or just very small and hard to see. I don't think anything is wrong with your machine or that mineralization is causing this.

Hello chris.

I had search the pile next to the hole with "Hand" touch very carefully together with my father but nothing. The soil was very clean (VINEYARD) , I removed a pair of small rocks and have checked if the rocks cause the digital readings (ExpII has not responsed to those rocks). In this position (around of a catted-Tree) says my father he has putted OIL to the tree which cause that the Tree dies!.

Maybe must i, reset my exII???

I'm still almost positive that your explorer is working properly. You would be amazed by how hard it can be to find the target in a pile of dirt. Some pieces of metal look like small stones. If you do not have a probe pick up handful of dirt and move your hand over the coil, then you can isolate it better.... But if you are looking for a "hoard" don't worry about small targets like this.

Does your explorer behave normally when you bury a coin a few inches deep?

Hello Chris.

I have checked the exii when i buy it!! was all right.

I cant check again because i am far away from my exII yet.

I must change the location where i search to see what happens.

I think because the exii is a very powerful machine is to much for me "newbie", if i sell the exII and buy a DFX are better(simpler) for me or not?? or i have the same problem!!!.

The problems you describe are common to almost all new users of the explorer. Generally after a few hours it starts to make sense. Getting a probe will help. If you are only interested in finding your hoard and not doing any other detecting you may find a different kind of detector is easier to learn. But the finds made by the explorer far outnumber those made by other detectors.

I agree with Chris... The Exp II is very sensitive to small items. At the beach I found two stud earring that were extremely small and keep going through my scoop. The X-1 saved me a lot of time.

I've also had many times when a signal just disappeared... Like Chris said, you should check your dirt pile and then continue to dig. A good probe is a great asset to the ExpII. I have the X-1 and I wouldn't want to do without it.

I've only been using the Exp for about 5 months but I would recommend you really work on your pinpointing skills. I had a bit of trouble with phantom targets in the beginning and pinpointing was the culprit. Carefully pinpoint one way and you'll be able to hear where the target falls on the center bar of the coil but not where on the center bar. For that you need to turn 90 degrees. Keep doing that ("X'ing out the target), first one way and then the other and you'll be able to see the exact location of the target. It will fall directly under the Minelab logo on the coil. In pinpointing, you'll also be able to get a target profile, or how large the object is. A single coin has a small tight profile. Pinpointing is pretty easy with the Exp and with some practice your accuracy will greatly improve and you'll decrease the frustration level.

Why not post what settings you're using and perhaps someone can give you advice from there. Improper settings can also result in some falsing or erroneous readings...
