EX II NEED SOME HELP OR IDEA'S!

Frank in NH

Active member
Yesterday was useing EX II in a gravel parking area lots of hotrocks, could not pickup a dime laying on top of ground had to switch to another detector. Any help or ideas how to solve this problem or use differant set ups on EX II? Thanks Frank

Frank:
Im not able to help you at all with the problem but I have found the same thing. The exp II is unbeatable down but I run a 2500 if I need to move quicker and pick up coins under 4 or 5 inches. I wish I could find a way to move and pick up shallow with the Ex II and be able to use only one machine , I think this would make a guy better with it but so far not. O it does seem to me and I dont know that is helps some to have sens on auto about 16 or less for top stuff but still (i go garrett for fast top stuff).
Good Luck

Frank,
Yes the explorer is a strange beast when it comes to shallow coins. Try lowering the sens down to 6 and use a 5 inch coil. Make sure that deep is off. Put the coil on the gravel and do a noise cancel. If that won't work then the hot rocks are just too overwhelming for surface stuff. The 8 inch concentric would work probably better in this situation as its just not "seeing" as much as the dd coil.

I don't know about the hotrocks but try audio 1 as it will give you longer to hear the signals especially if they are broken, also a 5" or 8" coil should help.

I have seen this happen in some area if it is trashy and the sensitivity is in auto and set over 20. I turned it down to 16 and made it better and even in auto it was OK, If over 20 in manual it will be erratic and switch to auto and wont pick up a dime on top of the ground. Next time this happens try dropping the sensitivity and if you go lower then 15, try auto and see what happens.

I have had that to happen one time and that was with the stock coil and there was a huge flat piece of iron under the ground, my other detector didn't have trouble seeing a dime there because it wasn't scanning as deep and has a concentric on it. There aren't many hot rocks where I hunt so I can't address that. If you clear the screen and the depth meter is close to the top in that area you are scanning and steady signals then it probably is in a state of overload, maybe best to use the other detector in that situation. The only thing left to try is reducing the sens and see if it helps.
