Excal death squeal

Has anybody ever measured the voltage of their rechargeable pak when the machine gives the famous need for recharge death squeal? I checked mine yesterday and thought the voltage to be quite high at over 11 volts. Sound normal?
 
If you do that it will read higher than it really is if using a multi meter. You either have to measure it under a load or a battery checker made for checking the voltage as it puts a load on it.
