Excal II battery life

Just got a used Excal II and wondered how can i hunt on a full charge with the standard factory battery ?

According to the owners manual a NEW Battery, fully charged, should give between 14 and 19 hours of detecting. An older battery may give a bit less time. I have been told that a NIMH battery does not mind being recharged after each use. They will also self discharge some amount over time.

I recharge after every hunt. Ive got 2 that i alternate. One is for the Xcal II the other is and old blue. On a multi meter the Xcal II ( which is about 2 1/2 years old) reads 14.38 fully charged..... ive hunted 10 hours on it before and it was still clicking along. Ive hunted that long on my old blue batter as well that reads fully charged 13.75 and i have no idea how old it is. I dont know if that difference in DCV is because of age. I do know they like to be used...... leaving a battery set around is worse than using them IMO. Its been awhile since ive checked the DCV after a hunt..... but i do remember it was more than 12 DCV which surprised me. So if your concern is do you need to have or take a second battery...... i dont. Best advice is to check it every now and then...... before and after some long hunts to get and indication on how its holding up.
