Excal II

What care and maintenance does the Excal need for Freshwater only usage? I have read about Silicon this and that prior to buying an Excal but now that I have one I can't seem to find what I need to do..

One of the things I think they do is put something on the rubber gasket disc thing at the battery. Some guys zip tie the coil cover to the coil to keep from losing it. Beyond that I'm sure there are many other tips and tricks people will chime in with.

Take of the coil cover after every use. Sand between the coil and the coil cover can give falls signals.

And if you don't use a coil cover be sure to protect it with spray on bed liner or epoxy. A friend lost his coil cover a while back and wore splits in the seams of the coil. I had to put 8 or 9 coats of spray on bed liner on it to seal off those gaps and to protect it from further wear.

For cables, mostly for saltwater but I'm sure it would not hurt every few weeks even for fresh. If you happen to get it around the POD decal, which you should spray under the knobs every so often also, it may leave run marks..this brand here seems to be Ok, but Dew had issues on his with another Brand. The silicon grease is for the little Ikelite battery connector gasket....

Ive posted this recently.... if you have a warranty the skid plate is REQUIRED to be used, NO bed liner spray can be used, They said you could use epoxy..... but based on Para 4.4 of their warranty that also seems to void the warranty. I went thru my skid plate fast.... it cracked id recommend using electrical tap on both the sides it does a bang up job. Try OBNs spray.... like he said the one i bought was Johnsons multi purpose silicone and it left a permanent run mark on it.

Thanks Guys ! I love that new machine ! Just want to take proper care of it and hope it will keep treating me well !

Mike,

Thanks for asking this question - I'm gearing up to hit the water soon, and was starting to wonder about this my self.

OBN, thanks for the photos. How often do you use the grease on the O-ring? Only when you take the cap off, or other times as well?

Also, are there any particular tricks to keeping the pod pins/connectors clean or cleaning them if they ever need it?

I'm getting more comfortable using the Excal now, and look forward to getting into the water with it, but want to be able to take good care of it as well.

Thanks much,
