Excal Question....

Grumpy (Texas)

New member
Not being a Excal user..but do have a couple of questions for the "Experts"

1. what coils other than Excal coils can be used? ie Sovereign ect. Yes I know that they are hard wired but other than that what "would" work?

2. is there a 5x7 or 6x8 type coil that would work.... 6" or 8" coil?

Thanks
Grumpy (TX)

i think all the GT coils will work like the S5..S8...S12 from Sun Ray and the WOT will also work.

It depends what kind of hunting you are going to be doing and how often you will hunt. If you go only once in a while, don't change a thing. My Excal 2 coil has performed supremely and I go all the time and don't miss much.
I would change the head phones, just put Gray Ghost on mine and it has made a world of difference and change the shaft to a straight shaft and you will be happy.

Eric,
I hunt every weekend. water hunt but all inland fresh water lakes. some sand lots of rocks and beer cans. was looking for something like a 6" coil that may work on the excal. don't have a clue of what kind of depth I would retain with a coil of this type just asking before jumping out and wasteing money..

if my Excal coil ever goes bad i will replace it with a Sun Ray S8...iv had the S8 and S12 and used them on my GT and it is the same as the Excal but not water proof box and hit dimes @ 10" with the S8 and 15" with the S12. the reason id go with the S8 for water hunting is its easy to pinpoint and almost no resistance.good luck !
