Excalibur - Can you get more bang for your bucks?

Well Guys (Gals): I think it's time to bite the bullet and upgrade from the ACE 250. I've got my eye on a used Excalibur 1000 for around 800 smackolas. Based on everyones totally unbiased opinion (tongue firmly planted in cheek), can I realistically get more bang for my buck from the other manufacturers when it comes to hunting the surf. Beaches here have a pretty high volume of trash.
Any and all input is greatly appreciated as I must call the ball on this unit soon.

If you are going to hunt the dry/wet sand besides the water get an excal or a water machine with at least the ability to disk out iron, but if you are going to stick to the water than a PI would do just fine.

I had a PI and after my third time out with it I had enough of digging bobby pins, nails and other assorted trash for the better part of the day. I ordered a Minelab Excalibur 800. I don't dig the trash and other assorted trash now that I have a Excalibur. For the extra buck I spend on it, it has paid for its self many times over.
Leave the trash and get the goodies you deserve.

Well to tell you the truth, you still dig alot of trash with the excal. I end up with about 2lbs of pull tabs, brass,foil but no iron. As far as $800 for a used machine, bite the whole bullet and buy new for a couple hundred more. You get a warranty and extras!! Hope this helps
