excalibur ll and sov elite problem

Hi All
Sinds i had my sov elite repaird in Ireland, there is a high pitch sound like every 1 minute.
Bought a brand new excalibur ll some 3 weeks ago, and after detecting for about 2 to 3 hours
it start acting the same, a very loud signal every minute.
Do somebody knows wath this could be.

Totay i bought a new spare accupack for my excalibur, gonna trye this out first to run the excalibur
with the accupacks only.
I use 2700 rechargebles and use a 100 $ + charger, with the same battery"s i can run my explorer for 2 days
and never had the low battery sound.
Is this high pitch sound a low battery indication ?

Hi Gerrit, I believe your batteries ARE L-O-W!! That LOUD SOUND-OFF every minute is the battery alert signal from a low battery!! When you charge your battery
pod, you have to read the manual about recharging instructions. I know on the Sov-Elite, you have to charge that battery for 14hrs. to get up to 15hrs. of detecting time, providing you are not letting the detector battery go for LONG PERIODS OF TIME, WITHOUT DETECTING!! Otherwise, battery will start to discharge after a couple of weeks, and you won't get the up to 15hrs. of detecting time. I do not have an EXCAL-II, I have the older model EXCALS' (2 of them to be exact), and the charging time on them is the same as the Sov-Elite. But, the EXCAL-II has a nickel-metal hydride battery and MAY REQUIRE A LONGER CHARGING PERIOD
than 14hrs. That is why you have to read the EXCAL-II Owners Manual, and it will tell you the proper charging time period. Hope this helps, hh, NamVetLesTreasureSeeker (Les Robinson)

Thanks, this souds like beeing the problem, gonna run the ex with the accupack only.
Butt for the elite, it works for 4 years with rechargebles, after repair I can 't run it with
the rechargebles anymore, this dont make sens to me.

The sound you refer to is EXACTLY the sound that an Excal with a low battery makes. A high-pitched "shrieking" sound that gets closer together as the battery gets lower in charge. Your batteries are not properly charged.

You need to charge the battery for 16 hours to get a full charge. Furthermore, Minelab specifically says NOT to use rechargeable batteries in the Excal. Please see the below excerpt from the Excal II manual and note the areas that I outlined in red for you.

that ain't enough to run an Excal. Mine starts the death squeal about 11.7 volts. I don't know what an accupack is, but after a charge it needs to be well over 13 volts to get a decent run on your Excal. The Explorer/Quattro does fine with 9-10 volts.

Hi again krok mate it is not how much you pay for the charger that matters it is the quality that counts i have around 5 top quality chargers and they are all different , so having a hundred dollar charger dosent mean that all is cured are you using nicads or nimh some chargers WONT charge both ,also never drain the batteries to dead flat it shortens the life of the battery in multiples of ten , and a battery pack will discharge 1% per day on its own.terry

Things mixed up because I run my elite sinds day one with rechargebles without any problem
and not reading the manual for the excalibur.

Whats this about not flattening batteries completely before recharging?

I was of the impression that this is what you HAD to do to avoid the batteries developing a "memory", so to speak.

LOU LOU lou what i was saying is never ever flatten the pack to dead flat always leave what is called a base charge if you are using nicads .with nimh,s it does not matter so much as they {nimh} can be charged half way down. but the secret to a good battery pack is the charger i ahve had guys throw their packs away because they thuoght the packs were RS one guy gave me two sovereign packs as he said they were strufgfed and i am still using them today.terry ,ps here is a shot of one of the best chargers around they are built in tasmania .
