Experience with FLOODED FRESH water beaches?

When I was aggressively pursuing detecting back in the mid-80's, my detector of choice was a Red Baron RB-7, by Bounty Hunter. It allowed me to "pretty much" keep up with the Garrett and Whites owners in our club.I didn't mind whipping it like crazy to find the goodies. Found a babies gold ring in a sidewalk easement in Carbondale, and an 1857 Italian coin in West Frankfort, IL. Now, I am just getting back in and have purchased a Safari and an X-Terra 705. Just wondered if anyone has had experience in using either on fresh water lake and river beaches that have been heavily flooded. I live in southeast (swampeast) Missouri, and you may have heard, we have flooding of biblical proportions.

After the flood subsides, is that a good time, or, a bad time to be on these fresh water beaches? Has the flooding deposited more sediment and trash onto the beech, or, has the flood waters eroded some of the beach, exposing more possible finds?

Any insight into fresh water flooding theory would be appreciated. Of the two, the Safari, or, the X-Terra 705 would be best for hunting recently flooded fresh water river and lake beaches?

I haven't been out yet, as I have been concentrating on amassing Civil War reference books, maps, SO. IL books, maps, permits, the Safari, X-Terra 705, and the coils, now, when I get moved here in a couple months back down into Ripley County, where I grew up in the 60's, I feel that I can get some exercise that I sorely need. I appreciate any input on the use of these detectors as to which would be best, or, if post flooding is a bad thing, all the way around.

Thank you.

Here are my coils.

SAFARI
16.5

Before anyone says it, yes, I probably do suffer from a compulsive disorder. :) I wrote up a list of coils to keep me from buying the same coil twice. I wrote down what the MineLab website had to say about each coil. That is why there is a brief description by most of the coils. If I were smart, I would have looked for web forums like this one with a classified section and bought most of the coils cheaper here and helped out a member in turn. Also, if I would have slowed down a bit, I would have checked to see if some of the aftermarket coils had a better review than a Minelab manufactured coil. For instance, I bought one Minelab coil that later, I found a comparison review by an owner of it and the SunRay version.

I am not really a newbie, just making newbie mistakes.

Reading the manuals for both the Safari and the X-Terra 705 waiting for the SunRay X-5, 5" to arrive. Went to Target to buy two four AA cell Duracell chargers, so that a I will hopefully have charged batteries when I go out. The department guy at Target told me that, from his personal extensive use of rechargeable batteries, the Duracell rechargeable batteries seem to last at least twice as long as the other brands of batteries,. I didn't buy it tonight, because there was only one left, and I wanted to see if they got fresh stock in, before I bought two. Local China Mart, aka, Wal-Mart didn't carry Duracell chargers.

I'm thinking two weeks, and the X-5 will be here. Mailed payment tonight.

I have both detectors and a good rule of thumb to use is that the XT-70 (705), especially with the HF coil will hit better on gold, while the Safari seems to hit better on silver. So if your going to hit fresh water beaches, I'd go with the XT-705 just because of any gold jewelry you might find there. Anywhere else I'd use the Safari because of how good it is on coins and silver. In all honesty, both detectors are very similar in overall performance and will work quite well no matter where you take them. Freshwater beaches often suffer from erosion after flooding, where as level land can have up to several inches of sediment added to it after any flooding. Althought there can be severe erosion almost anywhere along a river that has went over its banks.

Thank you, Mtnmn.

For the reasons you mentioned, that is the X-Terra 705 being believed to be a bit better on gold, is the reason that I chose it as a companion to the Safari which had a good silver reputation. Thank you for confirming it.

So, you are saying that even though the fresh water beach has been severely flooded, it might not be a bad bet to hit after the flood waters recede because some of the erosion that it experienced, might uncover some targets that may have been missed in earlier times? That makes sense. Okay, I will give it a go. Might take a few days, even a week or two. Much of southern Missouri has been hit hard with flooding. Clearwater Lake in Piedmont is about 8" from overflowing, which they expect it to do, and Wappapello Lake in Wayne-Butler County, Missouri is a mess. They are trying hard to hold it back, with temporary levees, or, building them up, but it is nothing like what the US Corps of Engineers have done to us in Mississippi, and New Madrid Counties by blowing the levees, destroying 140,000 acres of prime farm land, and over 100 very nice homes, plus the lives of those who lived and worked there.

You all will notice it in increased prices at your supermarket when their crops, now under water, or, yet to be planted this year, don't show up in the food supply chain, and the globalists use it as an excuse to further raise food prices.

Good answer, Mtnmn. I value your assessment, not only due to your number of posts in the forum, but the fact that you an realistically and honestly compare both the Safari and the X-terra 705, because you own both.

All the best.
