Hello,

It has been along time since ive posted on here, and it looks like I will be ablt to start hunting again!!!

I had a question for those of you that have both the 8in minelab coil and the standard 10in.
i was woundering about what to expect in depth for the minelab 8in coil thinkin about buying one!!1

Thanks again

Eric from Iowa

I have used and own one and I found a token once with it that had to be in the area of about 10". I also have the Joey Coil and I use this alot more than the 8" since it is light and it is oblong so every swing is still 10". I have nailed coins in trashy areas with it and after I got done with this area, I took my stock coil and tried to see if I missed anything. I couldn't find anything that I missed and this is why I use the Joey Coil more than the 8". Now don't get me wrong, the 8" coil is very effective in trashy areas and is worth owning one but I can get in between the surface tree roots and other obstacles better with the Joey Coil. So either or, you go out and get yourself a smaller coil because you will need it in trashy spots. Good Luck and HH.

Swing the 10" coil without it being to heavy then I wouldn't use the 8" coil unless I was in a really trashy area or had some sort of space restrictions. The 10" coil rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just my 2 zinc cents worth :)

Smaller coils can rock in really trashy areas.

The Minelab coil is actually 7.5" and I believe it's a tad bit more stable than anything in it's class although the Sunray is mighty fine too for the trashy sites or just for giving the arm a REST without giving up much depth to the stock 10", which like Mike said is awesome and hard to beat.
I like to start out with the 7.5" on a trashy site, clean it up and then go over it again with the 10" for the deeper finds that may be left.
I have a Joey and it's excellent but has one fault, it's not waterproof and I've had the coil start falsing pretty bad from just hunting in 4" high wet grass. I guess the moisture accumulates and enters the coil when hunted in those conditions to long, but after a few days it dries out and is good to go again.
Every time it happens, I forget to seal it with silicone before the next hunt.
That's what happens when you get OLD.
All good choices though for the right time and place IMO.
H.H.

I have both coils and really find the 8" to be almost as good in like conditions. So far my 8" coil silver coin count is 26 pcs in a month.I've used the small coil in a drained trashy, ghetto city pond, loaded with all sorts of metalic junk. The 8" seems to pick and lock in on silver.I started detecting the pond with my large coil and did ok.Because of the trash I decided to try the small.I really don't notice a DEPTH diffrence at least not at this location.

I use an 8 inch coil and have found coins down to 6 -7 inches. This is not the deepest it will go though , i would say 8 inches is going to be your maximum on coin sized objects . Usually i never seem to find coins deeper than 6 inches with my 8 inch excellerator.
