Explorer and Sunray x-1?

Hello. I've been reading that if one wants to purchase a Sunray X-1 probe for the Explorer XS, it has to be purchased with an upper rod. I was wondering why, it is so difficult to install the probe on the rod? Does it involve anything else than affixing the probe's control box to the upper rod?

I apologize for my ignorance, I'm a totally newbie regarding Minelab/Sunray equipment. Thanks!

With the X-1 probe for the Explorers the control box is fastened to the upper shaft and a hole cut into the shaft for the cable to run to the main control box of the Explorer and then the probe switching box is riveted to the upper shaft. You have the option of buy one on a shaft already or send yours in and have it mounted on your shaft. If you have the XS the shaft is not being made anymore so you may have to send yours in to have the probe mounted.
The other Sun Ray probes you can mount yourself, but the Explorer they mount them for you as it is more involved and 99% of the people may not be able to do this themselves and ruin the probe trying to put it on.
