Explorer battery & Charger Question....

New member
Just looking to see what the Best fessable method would be....

Is it worth it to Buy the Car Charger For both The SE & Excalibur...

Or just buy Another Rechargable battery for each unit?

MT,
It sort of depends on what you need. If you are going camping and plan to be away from easy electricity then you would want the car charger. I have had car chargers since 2000 and have never used one. I prefer having a couple charged battery packs. One that charges up and an AA pack is good. The two should get you up to three full days hunting.

You just need to make sure that the charger is designed for the kind of battery you want to charge. One size does not fit all when it comes to chargers, although some chargers can charge several types of batteries.

We have an inverter in our vehicle that we use to run the laptop when we are on the road - it plugs into the cig lighter. I have charged my EXP II batteries with it plus I bought one of those 15 min. AA/AAA chargers for those batteries and that works just fine too. And it does recharge 4 AA's in 15 minutes as they claim. I think we paid about $30 for the inverter at Wally World and about the same for the 15 minute charger.

I think in the Long Run it would be best if I just Bought a few more rechargable Batteries.....

The I don't have to worry about another Plug hanging around.. When I go Hunting I don't want to have to worry about having to charge a battery... And with my luck it would probally drain my trucks Battery...
and Being out in the Middle of no man's land it wouldn't be wise...

I think you'll find that running the inverter takes very little juice just to run the charger - probably take days to run down your vehicle battery.

We go though a lot of battery power and, until recently, we were buying batteries like crazy. On our field trips I may take 1000+ photos with my Canon S3 (we document old cemetaries and the S3 sucks up batteries) plus we use a GPS (geocaching), flashlights, etc, etc. I take 12 rechargable AA batteries and recharge as I use them. Have never had a vehicle battery problem. But note that we also take one of those portable battery jump starter units too - heavy, yes, but comforting to know it's there when we're out in to boonies.
