Explorer Battery Pack

I always take the spare pack as a backup, and leave it in the truck.

Most of my batteries are Rayovacs.

I have two B-packs and I think that it's the best way to go. No messin around with batteries, bad contacts and all that. Just plug them in and go. I also have a standard AA pack that I keep in the car in case I need another. I just stop and buy AA's if needed.

I bought batteries and charger from only batteries, and Internet sales dealer and I have been very happy with them. However, nothing performs like an lithium ion and I would like to see a pack developed that reduced the output to the limits of the minelab eTrac circuitry of better yet see a firmware revision that would accommodate using lithium.

just to set the record straight. minelab says using a differant Charger than theirs, on their battery packs, can void the warranty. nothing is said about differant brands of batteries except to ensure their lengths are long enough.. i misread the battery section. my apologies to minelab.
but ya still overcharge for your battery packs.

Here's a little tip for ya, make sure you take your batterys out of you battery pack if you are detecting in cold weather. I got a call on my cell phone and quick left my explorer in the polebarn and took off and it got real cold that night and I went out the next day to bring it in the house where it should of been in the first place and the batterys froze and started to leack battery acid out of it and lucky for me it stayed contained in the battery box just a little reminder our detectors are not cheap and I wouldn't want to have to send it in or replace it. Put the batterys in a zip lock for safe keeping.HH. EM.

I still hunt with the ML pack most of the time. Six hours and there is still plenty of battery there. Ive been out and forgot to recharge it and even when it shows at the bottom there is still a couple of hours on it and the machine isnt affected by the reduced voltage. Ive had mine since i got my machine... what 3 years or so and its doesnt seem to have a problem holding charge like some of those walley world batteries.

same here, the ML pack works great, lasts a long time. I picked up a used spare for $50 of the classified forum here and switch them around. I use the standard minelab charger, doesnt get the batteries hot which Im told is important. two fully charged packs is a heck of alot of hunt time.
Ive had the fast chargers and sold them off, I just dont run into that kind of situation where Ive gotta charge a pack in a couple of hours.

I have two Minelab 1800mAH batteries but also use Maha 2300 Powerex AA NiMH's and have great luck. Maha has the new Powerex Imedion's which they claim hold 85% of their charge after one year on the shelf. You can get 8 for about $35.00, a lot cheaper than a Minelab (sorry Minelab). And as stated by Stasys......if one goes bad, you just replace it......not the whole battery.
