Explorer coil question

D&P-OR

Well-known member
I have a question I've been wanting to ask for sometime. I've finally gotten registered on this forum-so here goes. On the SE, I prefer the FBS 1050 coil over the slimline for certain reasons. I've learned a lot from you guys by following this forum. I know Bryce-IL uses this coil (FBS 1050), theres got to be others using it as well. What do you see as the pros & cons of these two coils (other than weight)?---warts & all! I have the Excelerator 10"X14" & 6" coils and the jury will be out for awhile on the new SE coil--I'm just looking for opinions on the two above coils (FBS 1050 & Slimline). Bryce-----ANYBODY----opinions please. Thanks in advance, Del

Hey Del,
The deal with the Slimline coil was there were some defective ones early on in production, or at least that is what is generally stated. From my limited experience the Slimline coil is not as stable as the FBS coil. I can run my FBS coil at full sens. on the beach around here and not get a waver except maybe a bit at the waters' edge. The Slimline coil, run that high, gives quite a bit of chatter. ML gave me a new coil when I sent the SE in for repair. Must have been enough of a problem that they are replacing the older ones. I have not used my new one enough to figure if it works better than the first Slimline I had. People say the Slimline also falses in wet grass much more than the FBS (again not as stable). The issue is weight for me - I use the SR Stealth 8" coil most of the time. If I want to use the larger coil I reach for the FBS coil. I have high hopes for the new 11" ML coil - can't wait for some reports.
Hope this helps, HH - BF
