Explorer coin chart

Jim upstate NY

New member
Worked on this a while tonight, still have a few to add, but didnt have them handy, the ones with a range or from several readings on different coins.. a little more wear will affect the readings.. I will post again tomorrow when I finish it and also a junk target list... Again I don't use digital just the smart screen, but I know where each of these coins hit on the screen.. I think its easier than remembering a bunch of numbers.. this my concern of the etrac showing a flat line across reg same ferrous range on the smart screen
If I get the etrac I will repeat the test with same coins and junk.. I can probably prefill the chart with 12's :)
except the gold and silver dollars these are actual readings from my finds from the ground.. I coulda done the clad, but figured who cares..

I realize some of you think I am just starting trouble, but I like the way the explorer works and reads,, all I want is faster response...
and I don't care what way the screen goes or any of the other changes, but dont take away my true ferrous readings.. otherwise its not a true graphic, just another conductive only reading machine
.
I been using minelabs for over 12 years and its all I ever use.. so I figure I have a right to complain :)

Hi Jim, and thank you for your listing, which I will integrate into my records, and utilise for analysis.

Provisionally, I see at least a 60% improvement in the E-trac's CONDUCTIVITY resolution, and about 13% in the FERROUS.

Please understand, these figures are extrapolated from other people's data which I've acquired over a few years, so are dependant on their diligence in recording.

In view of those facts, I suggest that Conductivity, with its improved resolution, will prove to be a better tool than Ferrous with the E-trac, compared to our old methods. ( Which I also preferred for low conductivity targets, when using the EXP )

I honestly believe, that after you have used your new E-trac, you will be more than pleased by the total performance outcome.

It development has been rigorous, and the results are what now makes this machine's ' heart', beat with a palpable assurance.

It is evident even at this early stage, that people are commenting on the E-trac's 'solid' feel, performance-wise.

The intelligent users will learn its functions, and use them knowingly to approach detecting difficult sites, with a new confidence,

As you well know, ground mineralisation is the enemy, and too highly set sensitivity, is the worst of user errors.

With the new E-trac, it will warn you of conditions if you pay attention to the dynamic sensitivity icons at the LHS of the display.

Minelab have introduced new tools in this unit, Now it will be up to the user to educate themselves how to 'read' the situation, and respond accordingly.

The best unit on the market, will always be at the mercy of its owners ability to operate it, and also the fact that it won't find what isn't there'.

One phrase that always amuses me is, " It's not finding deep targets."

To which I respond, " How deep are these deep targets your not finding?" QED.

Thanks one again for your assistance, and look forward to reading your reports.

All the best.............MattR.UK.

E-trac at Conductivity mode will sound like explorer2 ... silver high tone and gold low tone ??? E-trac sounds like explorer @???
Thanks.

as long as it out performs the explorer in iron... my main reason for upgrading... I can get quite a bit out of the iron with my explorer but is a long tedious thing working it so slowly... I have several spots with so much iron I know stuff i left in.. if the etrac can get more from them then it will be worth the investment... any new or modern trashy spots I can always use my SE if I have trouble with the etrak ID I suppose...at least all the stuff is interchangeable so don't have to spend another grand on extra coils etc...
remember the bad part I see is the aluminum reading same as the coins in ferrous.. hopefully the audio response is similar to the explorer as I can tell aluminum trash from good stuff in most cases, and for the most part aluminum trash is in the pull tab to zinc cent range, which does affect cu/ni coins and some smaller silver on the explorer, but the audio response comes through most times.. but thats using ferrous for years.. and conductive may force me to relearn everything over again... I think it takes a few years to learn the responses well enough to ignore trash.. and thats a long time. by then they will probably have a new machine out that puts me back to square one again :)

if the ferrous reading affects conductivity audio response then thats all the more difficult... All I am asking for is an explanation of why they would change this? since they recommend conductive and most people use it.. why mess with those that do not.. you know what I am trying to say? I think some people think I am trying to trash the etrac before even using it.. but I just want an answer and no one including field testers I have heard from can answer why other than thats the way that minelab decided to go.. If it enhances respnse time. I understand, but if its merely because they think its easier for new users that not the answer I want.. and they should have added a third mode.. like explorer ferrous mode.. I am sure they could have done that ion the software since it is already available on the explorer... 1895 for a machine that takes something I think is a valuable tool away, just dont seem right to me

Anyway the big thing will be to see how much trash targets come in at the 12 ferrous reading... I gotta go out and dig trash now so I can have some targets to test :)

Rant, Rant, Rant my friend. Maybe, just maybe they will change it more to us US users liking.

I suspect that the speed improvement of this machine will more than compensate for the bit of discrimination that we will want to use with Conductive tones as opposed to hunting in AM. The slower Explorers may have inspired folks to hunt in this mode and then Ferrous tones may have been necessary - but I think Conductive tones are more "natural" and can be used now with the faster processor. The increase in Conductive resolution is great and I think it will be a great asset for us. Time will tell, but I have faith that the Minelab engineers know what they're doing.

Alex.....g'day

Simply put. "Yes".

Conductivity audio, will give you that which you describe, and more variations thereof.:-

Hopefully, the attached page from the manual, is readable, and is just one example from that Audio section.

It details what is basically adjustable to whatever type of audio method you choose.

By now I'm sure that you've discovered the 'on-line' manual, and can probably tell me a thing or two!

Happy reading..............MattR.UK.
