Explorer II custom Nautilus or Tejon programming

I hope I dont get anyone upset for asking this, I'm just trying to think outside the box. Has anyone ever tried to set their Explorer up to mimic a Tejon or a Nautilus? The way I see it, if there WERE some advatages to using a Tejon or Nautilus in certain situations we might benefit by making the Explorer run similarly. AT THE SAME TIME, we'd also have the advantage of the multi tones and the TID to assist us. It just seems to me that with all of the programming at our disposal with the EXP II, we might still have the advantage over the other machines while being able to "sit on both sides of the fence".
Whats everyone elses opinion, has anyone tried this? I know several of you have used one of the other machines in the past, is this even plausible?
 
I don't see any reason your question would get anyone upset.
They are all 3 very different detectors that give good results, some naturally work better than the other in particular situations.
I think the closest thing to your suggestion would be the X-Terra 70 but at this moment the coil choices are limited.
Just my 2 cents.

I agree with Mike, why try to program the EXP to be anything other than what it is, the best of the best in hand held detectors. The X-Terra-70 is much closer to what you are describing, and now has all three frequency coils available 7.5kHz standard, 3kHz low, and 18.75kHz high.

I'm wondering why you are always buying and selling detectors? Wonderlust? Find a brand and stick with it long enough to find something. You can't make a Minelab into a another brand, and why would want to anyways? You don't need to make a Porsche' into a Corvette. You need to work with the machine to learn how to maximize your finds. Then you won't be thinking the grass is greener on the other side because you'll know it just flat out is not. And that is my two cents worth.
 
well sorry if you didn't think I was being tactful. After researching other posts by MIG73 where I see quite a few turnovers of detectors, I thought my advise was rather sound. we apparently don't see things the same way. But this is an opinion and open forum. However if you intend to hawk other detectors in a Minelab forum - you might find that my opinion is not the only one you'll be hearing.

Good morning Ocean7. I meant no offense to you. I was just a little surprised when I read your post, and "heard" the tone of it. I do not know mig73, or his history, and as such can't comment on him. Guess I just enjoy listening, learning, and commenting in a more friendly way. You are right, this is an open forum, for the expression of opinions and questions. My detector of choice and use is an Exp II, and while I am an authorized dealer for many brands, I do not intend to "hawk" other brands in the Minelab forum. Peace my friend.....

It has many changeable facets and works for many with complete different programs. I see where you are coming from but don't thik its feasible.
Do remember change one facet and it alters another and that has to be taken into consideration. My advice if you can afford same buy several detectors and by all means do experient...myself simplicity is the key to setting up an Explorer and works for me..however I am sure many have more intricate programs that work well also, but find a program and stick with it lest you become confused at best...
 
I just wondered if by altering the response or settings on the EXP if it could give us the best of both worlds. Oceans7 is right, I HAVE traded detectors around a good bit, but until I did that I wasnt sure what machine worked best for ME, and I feel like that machine is the EXP II. Like I said in my original post, I worried that I'd get flamed for asking the question, but I was just trying to think outside the box. I wondered if some of the settings on another detector might have made a difference, and if by adopting them to the EXP II that it might give us ALL a better machine. Hes entitled to think that I'm stupid if he wants, but that doesnt make him right. Just like I'm entitle to think hes a prick if I want ( I dont, but it would still be my perogative if I wanted to)...So much for trying to think creatively.
 
I personally think an Explorer has the best guts of any on the planet, but don't expect me to sell my CZ as I have done well with one for years..Sames goes for some Southern relic hunters who would kill rather than give up their Nautilus, or Tejon hunters that do well especially on small gold and the list goes on and on so pick up your favorite and go get em...No best detector out there and some just work better in different areas...Tiger Woods has more than one club in his bag and those that can afford it usually have more than one unit depending what he is looking for and the particuliar hunting situation..Actually personal preferences and ability to know their units well to get the most out of it usually excell...
 
It's gotta be said here....Mig73, Edison was called looney and a dreamer before "the light came on", many thought old Henry Ford and the Wright brothers were stupid too. Creative thinking is something very few do. You are to be applauded for thinking "outside of the box", not degraded. Remember my friend...."the only dumb question is the one that doesn't get asked"!

no I don't think you're stupid and I can see that I should have reworded the title of my response to something else. I apologize if you took it that way, and you can think I'm @#$%& if you like... :)
