Explorer II ? draining battery

i have the explorer II that loves to drain my battery i charged the battery over night and they will only last about 4 hours its not the battery because sandy sent me a new battery to try. it still does the same thing.did any one every have this happen to them and had to ship it back to minelab to have it repaired. i just wanted to know because i shipped mine off today and just wanted to see what would cause this

thanks tony

It seems like my EX-II is draining the batteries way faster than ever before, both the rechargeable and the alkaline battery pack. I didn't start out at full charge today, but I drained both packs when either one should have got me through the detecting time today. Didn't have this happen before. It seems that I put about a half hour on the alkaline pack last week, and I don't think I got two hours off the same pack today. I'll have to keep an eye on this one, and hope you post an update of possible causes.

make sure you don't accidentally hit the back light button. It is easy to do in the bright sunlight and you will never know it

I am a Biomedical Electronics Tech. The problem that come's to mind is that if there is a short in your battery compartment or on the PCB Printed Circuit Board, where the wirering is touching something metal (a screw or metal case). We call this "Shorting to ground". This will drain the battery very fast. If it's a wireing problem it's an easy fix, and if it's on the PCB they will just swap it out.

That's a good one, since one would not purposely press the backbit during sunlight. Maybe if they had a flashing icon on screen showing back light on, providing I saw it. I'll have to check on this one. Hope something is not wrong where it's stuck on. Thanks..

Wouldn't a short pull the voltage below operating threshold of the PCB components rendering the machine non-operational?

I'll pass this one off to the wife for legit justification - I should have known the EX-II had a life expectancy...

No but let us Know when you get it back ??? im sure it will be ok when you do i here the service at Minelab is great HH always
