Explorer II finds 200 year old coin!

My wife and I had a great day out today. She said she wanted to find an old engagement ring with a diamond. Well, first we stopped at a local baseball diamond and looked around. Found about $8, or so and she wasn't finding much. I found a nice silver ring with 4 mother-of-pearl insets, which got her interested again. She was just about to ask if we could head off to another spot, when she gets an iffy signal on her 2500 and digs it to find a beautiful 18kt gold ring. The sapphire and all 12 diamonds tested real! Beauty!
After a little while longer, we headed off to another sports oval which isn't used much any more, but was very popular many years ago. We've always found a few old coins there. Today was no exception. She thought she was going to best me with oldest coin of the day when she walked over with a nice 1874 British shilling. That put her in the lead until a bit later when I dug up a (date barely readable) 1807 George III halfpenny! My second oldest coin yet! We found 6 halfpennys (1807,1905,1911,1913,1922x2), 5 old pennys (1911,1920x2,1922,1942), 3 sixpences (1948, 1962x2) and the 1874 shilling. Also finished off the day with $29.20 in current stuff!
(Sorry, don't have any photos of the KGIII coin - not much to look at, anyway.)
Cheers,
Toby

What an awesome day Toby. A hunt like that would really make my day BIG TIME! What a great bunch of finds. I'm still look forward to the day I find any coin that is pre 1900's.
Well done.:clapping:
Mick Evans.

I have to ask this silly question as it was always at the back of my mind.
How do the rings and coins manage to escape the lawn mower on this type of oval?.Most don't even have a scratch on them???.
