I've owned both... I sold the C$ but I still have the Explorer. With the C$ I was digging hot rocks that were hitting in the 20's. That is a known and documented problem by Fisher with the C$ in some areas. It makes it almost unusable at some of the sites I hunt. Even when I could get past the hot rocks problem I couldn't get any consistant performance out of the C$. One time I would be getting excellent performance... go down the street and the C$ could get so unstable, etc. that it was hard to use. I am NOT a casual detectorist. I spent alot of time trying to get at least consistanty out of the C$. I will remind you what doesn't work in my area may work in yours. The Explorer on the other hand has been one of the best detectors I have ever used. It takes a little bit of time to really master it and get the full potenial out of it but it's worth the effort. The Explorer has a very good selection of coils. Here's a list... 2 different 5 inch coils, 7.5 (Minelab 8 ), 8 inch Sun Ray, Joey (5 x 10 inch elliptical), platypus (8.5 x 11.5 elliptical), 10.5 inch (stock), 12.5 inch, 14 inch, 15 inch ,18 inch coils! It's a very adaptable machine. The C$ has a coil selection of 8 and 10.5 inch. There's no 5 inch for it.
