Explorer II question for the pro's !

>>> As for meds your hunting in dual digital, you need the meds <<<

So the people at Minelab who you are so quick to quote didn't know what they were doing when they made the Dual-digital mode? Is that what we are to believe? I find it to be very helpful. I can see where you wouldn't, since you told me you don't know what the numbers coorelate to. If you learned, you might see the value of it. But you prfer not to learn them and to use the Smartfind screen. That's fine...many do. No problem from me on that.

So why are you so intent on criticizing anybody who doesn't have the same theory on how to use their Minelab as you do? The way I hunt with mine has worked QUITE well for me. And if anybody asks me, I tell them what works for me. And I've posted hundreds of pictures on the Beach/Water forum, Fisher, BBS, Minelab, Quattro, and this forum to prove it works for me. But I certainly won't tell somebody they don't know what they're doing because they don't do exactly as I do. There's more than one way to skin a cat with these machines. And for people that want to leave them in the factory default mode and run Auto sens, they work very well. When you're ready to push the envelope and EXPLORE what the machine can do, it will do that too.

If you hung out on the Beach and Water detecting forum this summer at all you would see that I dug plenty of gold and posted the pics too.

It seems that you aren't interested in any meaningful discussion or sharing of info, just starting controversy...as you boasted about in THIS post: http://www.findmall.com/read.php?19,273855,273855#msg-273855

I think that pretty much tells us what motivates you. I will no longer be responding to your posts, in an effort to end what has become a childish display.

Frank, normally you will need to reduce the sensitivity only slightly if at all. I find that at the beach with a big coil you may have to drop it a bit but in the woods or a field, where a larger coil can be a big help, you may not have to lower it at all. What you will find is that it will be most effective in cleaner areas where there aren't a lot of targets close to one another. For example, it's probably not the best coil for working in playgrounds and high trash areas because target separation will be problematic. The other thing is that it will be a little different pinpointing with. Still very good, but may take a little adjustment. One thing that I find helps with a bigger coil is to lift it a little during pinpointing...maybe an inch or two. Makes the target "smaller" and a little easier for the bigger coil to pinpoint.

hi frank, lol i just read all the come backs you had on your post and could believe that all you wanted was a simple answer. sometimes its like dealing with a bunch of kids. ive had my explorer xs since it first came out and found that there's so many way to run an explorer. i dont really think minelab has all the answers yet but anyway.
yes ive found that running the X-12 in different condition as with all coils you may have to change some settings around. on farm fields i can get the sens. up high but at the beach for some reason i have to bring it down to like 18 to get it stable. i alway run in manual mode. has far as depth goes, your only going to get so deep.
here's a great site to check out www mikesweather.metsite.com . this guy has some great tips and a very interesting website. ive used his idea's and theories alot. guys like this are the ones you want to deal with when looking for information. there's always some chichen farmer out there that thinks he knows everything about everything.
hope this helps. HH

I have tried the IM-16 and found that I didn't like it. I did'nt like hearing all the noises. If I wanted to run in all metal I wouldn't have bought such a expensive machine with the superior discrimination abilities the Exp 2 has. I could have saved a lot of money and bought a Walmart or Radio Shack machine. Am I hearing that the machine will ignore a dime beside a piece of iron? If so I will continue to hunt in disc, and I am a betting person. I will bet I will cover more ground, and find just as much if not more that way, because of the more ground I am covering, and not stopping to re listen to all the different sounds. With more experience in 16 I might do better but I do not care to listen to all the different sounds. Each man can sail his ship the way he chooses.

First I'm not a beginner with the Explorer. Secondly I have most every coil made by Sunray, Coiltek and Minelab. Plus the Sunray probe is a coil. I'd venture to say that most every truly good hunter I've met and hunted with has a Sunray probe on their Explorer. Most wouldn't think of going out without it. For sheer depth the Coiltek 15 inch has no equal. But anyone that thinks that a different sized coil won't improve things in different conditions is hardly worth listening to. It's just common sense. Admittedly it's expensive common sense but still sense. If you are in a trashy area with extreme amounts of trash you cannot tell anyone that knows a 5.5 Sunray coil won't outperform a bigger coil that is going to have target averaging problems by covering more then one target at a time in heavy trash. And different degrees of trash will have a certain coil that has it's advantages. I'm talking about the big 3 here that have proved themselves. Sunray, Coiltek and Minelab coils. They're all made very well and have very good warranties.

To the last point I'm going to make here. It's been a while since I got so much mail asking me to ban anyone but in this case Bunn Leanard.

I just read that he's getting rid of his Explorer. If that's so then he really needs to go to the Beach forum where he can explain to all of us how he doesn't ever dig aluminum while he's picking out the gold rings. We all need that sense. I believe that last sentence kind of tells you what I think of his hot air here so I'm betting Bumm will read this, get a little mad but he'll also realize I'm waiting for him to give me a reason to unplug him. You can have opinions here. Just not ones where you end up telling everyone that besides I'm dumping the machine I'm trashing you guys on anyway. You're just pot stirrer with an agenda. You'll be on my agenda right away. Read on.

I just read everything you just said. If you continue with this nonsense you'll only be able to post on the Views forum where we'll all be more then happy to take your fine attitude and give you a free verbal tour.

Guvner..

So I see you tried some normal settings having a blast ? good luck, from what we have talked about your the man on research,go to it and clean up!!!!

I also said that there's more than one way to skin a cat with the Explorer II and that IM -16 is not for everyone. I guess you saw that, right?

And I said that you have to be willing to listen to some chatter, but because you do you don't get the nulling out that comes with discrimination. That can be a help when you have a lot of junk around and a good target gets masked by a bad one that nulls the machine. Will it happen every time? No, it won't. I run a pattern sometimes that will find most coins, bullets, and buttons and ignore iron and trash. And I've done well with it. It depends on the hunt site. Sometimes I get tired of listening to the junk too. But when you DO listen to it, you are still FAR better off than with your Radio Shack machine. Because the info is still there...Smartfind, digital, and tones. The Radio Shack and the other cheapo's don't have that. So it's not a waste. My point is that it's another strategy at your disposal and one that works for me. As does your method as well. I never criticized anybody for not hunting like I hunt. I was the one criticized. I fully support your right to hunt and darn way you want to. :)
