Explorer iron mask to -16/zero discrimination = What on Sov ?

I'm reading an article where a fellow has seemingly figured out how to use his WOT on his Explorer XS to hunt DEEP silver coins that are out of range of most other coils. He states that once he set his Explorer XS iron mask to -16 which is zero discrimination, the coins started hitting.

I would like to try this on the Sovereign XS2a, does that setting translate to simply turning the disc as low as it'll go on the Sovereign ?

Here's the article of interest:

You can't do that on a Sov. On Explorer IM-16 is bascially Discriminate Mode set to actual zero Discrimination. On a Sov even a GT with Ironmask turned off there is no way to get to zero Discrimination while staying in the Discriminate Mode. No matter how low you set the discrimination Control on a Sov it is still going to null on iron. About as close as you can get with a Sov is to hunt in ALL Metal Mode which is no where near as stable as the Discriminate Mode. If you hunt in All Metal the faint changes in the Threshold due to ground changes would sound almost identical to the small threshold fluctuations caused by really deep coins on the edge of the detectors range of detection.

That's what I was suspecting. So effectively an Explorer on IM-16 is wide open, like all metal, but with tone changes depending on the type of metal detected.

Bummer, I was hoping to apply the Explorer technique to the Sovereign

Thanks,
Brian
