Explorer Se, I guess I've joined the great unwashed

Boony

New member
Hi Guys,
My Explorer SE turned up on Wednesday, so I guess I have joined the great unwashed SE owners club, after trying it out for about half an hour on a very small beach (about 50 meters across) I found that I could run the SE at 26 manual sens and still maintain stability (on this beach which is close to a school and power lines I couldn't run the EX II any more that 18 - 20 sens) I have hunted this beach about ten times before, it's always good for a bit of lunch money the kids leave behind, with the SE I started to get very deep predecimal coins (5 in all) I suspect that with the increased sensitivity and stability I'm finding with the SE, I am seeing targets deeper that I would have been able to with the EX II. The VCO pinpointing I didn't mind because I have some high frequency hearing loss, but I can appreciate it would be a bit harsh for people with good hearing. After setting the SE up with the X1 probe and the Platypus coil the weight is pretty much the same as the EX II, so I will just have to put up with it. All in all I think minelab has made a step forward with the SE. Being able to run it hotter is a big plus for me as I have a couple of sites that turned up a few old coins with the EX II and I'm keen to get back to them and give the SE a run.
All the best and happy hunting....Boony

Good Hunting, and even greater luck Boony. Be careful though, there are those who will attempt to "wash you". We will be very interested in your future posts and finds as a result of the SE.

To put your Stock coil back on as I have found that tne Platapus coil does not give the correct ID at the same depth that the stock coil will give with the EXPll or the SE. Let me know what yours does. The stock coil will ID better and give you a little more depth. Also the coil cover don't fall off  . What a waste of money that was. The balance was not worth all that money I paid for it. Should have bought the Sunray 12" coil. However, I have to say I really enjoy the Joey coil as that is what stays on my Expll and SE majority of the time as I hunt a lot of trash and iron. Anyway I am proud to be one of the Unwashed  . If they come out with another updated Exp. I will buy that one too as long as the updates are what I want. I have run the Pitch Hold in the dirt and like it alot as I have dug some really deeper stuff then my Exp ll side beside target for target. I just don't know how it is going to be at the beach. I think I am running a little hot for the Pitch Hold as the tones keep changing but this is a very bad beach to hunt as my CZ70 won't even G/B. You are right about the RF and being able to run the SE hotter at the beach the SE is handling it better then the Exp ll. HH :D: :D: Jerry AKA Tinfoil

Nice to hear you see a difference in your hunting with the SE, I feel it is a better detector from what I have seen on a few test I have done. Maybe not for everyone and maybe it don't go any deeper as some say, but will see good targets better in with iron as I have seen on some of my test and also will lock on better too.
Mine I got is now out with James to see if he can see a difference where he hunts as he gets to some great sites as we have seen. I just hope he don't get too much and leaves a little for me too. The site he is going too is a tough one and most cant find anything, but he has picked out a little silver.

Good luck with the SE and I hope to see you post quite a bit more of the great finds with the SE.

Looks like ya smokin' Boony,
yeah smokin'...

Boony, you stated that you could now run your SE's sensitivity much higher on that beach with the power lines near-by.
More sensitivity delivers greater depth,
( proven by you detecting early pre-decimals that were not previously "seen" by your Explorer II...)

~ Now I've gotta do all my beaches again!

Heh heh

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the response to the post, I really think the extra stability the SE has over the EX II is a big plus, and Snowy I'm sorry you have to go over your beaches again (life's a bitch) but I will have to go over mine again too. We had our local show here this week so I'm going to hit the showground on Wednesday and see if I can pick up a few clads, the $1000 AUD I picked up with the EX II over the last twelve months certainly helped pay for the SE. I'll let you know how I go.
All the best......Boony

PS Tinfoil, I'll give the stock coil a go on Wednesday and let you know how it goes.
