Explorer Se Pro Coil Question

Hi Everyone, I have a stock Se Pro Butterfly coil and I also purchased a small DD Excellerator coil from Kellyco the day I bought my Se Pro from them. I have only put the DD Excellerator coil on one time because I don't know the answer to the following question: When I put the smaller coil on, do I have to change any settings on the detector in order for this coil to be "tuned" correctly? I quickly switched back to the stock coil and never tried the smaller one again because I wasn't confident I was doing it right. Can I just put the smaller coil on, get my GB, and go? Thank you for your help. -Marc

Marc --

You can use the small EXcelerator coil with the same settings you use your stock coil with. There is no "tuning" necessary when you switch coils. You can usually, however, run the smaller coils at higher sensitivity if you wish to -- since they are smaller and don't read as much of the ground minerals and thus run more "stable"/less noisy.

By the way, I am a bit confused by you saying you are using the "stock Pro butterfly coil." The stock "Pro" coil is not a butterfly coil; I assume this is the one you have if you bought the machine new from Kellyco. However, some people will purchase a "butterfly" coil to replace the stock coil -- often the one they choose is the 10x12 S.E.F. coil, an aftermarket coil made by a company called "Detech." This is the one that folks call a "butterfly" coil (due to the unique shape of the coil that sort of looks like a butterfly with outstreched wings.)

Hope this helps; happy hunting!

Thanks for your message Steve. I see what you mean about the "butterfly" coil issue. I have the stock coil that looks "butterfly-ish" and so I mistakenly thought that is what people were referring to. Good thing you corrected me as I have been thinking they were talking about the stock coil when they were referring to the "butterfly" coil. I just searched the "butterfly" coil and finally understand what people have been talking about. Thank you for your information regarding my original question and for clearing up the "butterfly" misunderstanding, your post was very helpful. Happy hunting and thank you again

You may find a little difference in a digital reading on deeper coins on any coil not the STANDARD (Pro coil in your case) which is a matched coil. That normal with any machine. You can use your normal settings.... but you might be able to tweak a smaller coil for better performance. You want to do that on a deeper found target in the area you are hunting, its just more realistic. Its a lot like going from the factory setting to your chosen settings once you learn the machine.

thank you both for your replies. I really appreciate it. I think I will give my excellerator coil another try next weekend if I can get out. Your information has given me more confidence and hopefully I will get some confidence back in my se pro. Thanks again guys. -Marc
