Explorer SE Pro / ETrac

I am looking for feedback on this detector from people that have had both explorers. I have been using a Explorer II since 2005 with great success. I used to be active on the forum(s) years ago. I am thinking about upgrading to SE Pro or E-Trac. I have a x-1 probe and x-8 coil as well. I am hoping that things like processor upgrades have given the SE/Etrac faster response. What's my Explorer II worth now days?

I think the Explorer SE is the Best as for the smart find , I had the E-Track it is too jumpy, The SE locks better on a VDI #
I have a SE on the way, Mickfin

Congratulations Mick and I too favor the SE over the E-Trac. I bought an E-Trac and although it had new features I liked, I am going back to the SE Pro. The smartfind on the SE is all too familiar to me and I didn't like the change in the flat line target ID. A lot of people do like the ET though, it's just not for me.

Someone mentioned a while back that the E-Trac is easier to learn if you are not upgrading from the Explorer.

I would have to agree with that statement Dave.

whats the difference between my existing coil and the pro coil besides weight and new look. Plus I prefer to use my X-8.

Pro-coil is much lighter and I feel it has much better separation than the stock explorer2 coil and a hair more area coverage . The X-8 is an awesome coil also I use it when the shoulder needs some relief and I use it in brushy areas because I have the inserts for it . The stock explorer2 10.5 coil slides better on beach sand than the pro-coil because it has more bottom surface area . You could do great with just using your X-8 if you didn't want to spend about $200.00 for a new pro-coil .

I like my SE and havent considered an upgrade to the Etrac. If i had the Exp II..... id have to agree buy the pro coil. Its likely the greatest change and something worth your money. More bells and whistles dont make a better machine when you are looking for improved depth and TID. HOWEVER.... everyone finds that machine that seem to work best for them.... some moved to the Etrac and likes it others dont. Sometimes you can find a dealer willing to give you a great trade in price.

From everybodys comments it dosnt seem like they have done much to improve the explorer except painting it black and putting a better coil on it. Thank you for all your comments. But if I am going to spend $200 to upgrade my EX II I will probably buy Sunrays X-12 as my stock 10.5 has always performed fine for me and having two nearly equal coils dosen't make $en$e to me. Thanks again! It has been fun reading all the post again.

all explorers the same, coils pro and 1050 very similar-for me better 1050. minelab cant make much different coil from stock except lighter because all explorer electronics the same like 10 years before except some program differences. good luck

Let me be the first to add I don't think the SE is even close to the E-Trac. At least in my area that seems to be the case.

I'm still pulling deep old coins from the same sites the SE had stopped given goodies from. The E-Trac is better balanced and more stable. I found Smart Find on the SE useless and the E-Trac far more accurate.

you will never know how much better it is than the stock and x-12 as well.I would agree that the SE is not much improved over the Great EX II except for the much better pinpoint mode. The E-Trac is much more stable/quiet than any of the Explorers while getting as good or better depth. The auto sensitivity is greatly improved on the E-Trac as well.
The only way to know what works best for you is to try other machines and compare with your old standby. That is what I and many other Explorer users did and would not think of changing back from our E-Tracs.

Richard Robenson at Backwoods is a good mulity Dealer for trad ins, 423-360-1242 Mickfin

I have been trying to read as much as possible about the ETrac while contemplating a trade. I just recently bought a "like new" Ace 250 with a Sunray probe from a friend who is no longer in the hobby. I dont think he even used (1) set of batteries through it. The probe still has the YF stamp on the end of it. I wonder if a guy could trade that detector plus a EXII for a Etrac.

E-trac is not an upgraded Explorer..It is its own model. It has great features and the ablility to share patterns. From what I have seen while hunting side by side with the SE is that they find good targets and the E-trac finds good targets. I believe my E-trac can determine if its a digable target faster than the average SE user..Good Hunting

Ray cant say about etrac much, but about pro coil can-have two, they are not better or can be the same inside except outer design, its not possible to make better coil for all condition on the same detector where electronics the same. but again its my small point and if Pro better for you its better, nothing can say more.
