Explorer SE Pro stock coil erratic signals

Anyone have any stable settings for coin hunting. Mine seems to have a hell of a time locking on to any targets. I’ve tried everything. Any help appreciated

Kevin, do you use a coil cover? If you haven’t removed it in awhile, do so and clean that and the bolt and nut and washers.

If you have, have you tried another coil?

I only Han the Exp II not the Se.
My settings are listed in the back of Andy Sabich Explorer book.

I would try the above first before changing settings. If you do a factory reset write down your settings before you push the button?

PS: you could send a PM to IDXmonster - he is a good person and uses a SePro

I have an SE with a pro coil..Did you noise cancel? What are you running for sensitivity? Ferrous or conductive? Iron mask on or off?

Thanks for info. Thought about sending him a message. I use to hunt with explorer II and knew those flutty tones. Guess I’m going to have to keep at it lol

Hey fellas! Tony...I DO use the EX2, no SE here. They’re very similar I would imagine so with erratic ID(if it’s on just about EVERY target that winds up actually being a coin) what you have is sensitivity that is set too high for the conditions. When I’M coin hunting for deep old coins, I simply black out the entire screen except for the upper right quadrant. I leave Iron Mask totally open to check targets. If it’s a weak “maybe” and I switch to an open screen and it starts coming in a lot better....not good. By not having the screen open in the lower right as you would with Iron Mask, you don’t have to listen to all that nonsense. TRUST the machine to tell you about the coin...it will. Right now we’re just trying to get stable and reliable.
Kevin....(I’m Kevin also BTW

IDX Kevin, I don’t know why I thought you had the SE. must be memory loss, ha ha.

You might have a broken/intermittent wire going to the coil. I've had to resolder the coil connector on various coils a couple of times in my almost twenty years of XS ownership.

So if you have another coil try that and see if the problem goes away.

It’s all good now. Just need a few hours behind it It’s all coming back to me. Put the sharpshooter coil on and I don’t think I will ever take it off, separates great. Still want the e-trac but this is a nice machine and will serve me well. Just need to figuare out a good program. Thanks for everyone input

Kevin,

My XS is still my go to detector, even though I have the Equinox 800 and CTX. Target ID is much better. Don't worry too much about programs, especially discrimination patterns. General consensus is less is more. I run in ferrous mode with only crown caps discriminated out.

There is a ton of good advice on this forum.
