Like many users I experiment with a hold range of settings some of which are enough to give my head a nervous breakdown.

We have 3 guys in our club who still use factory basic settings with just a change to manual sensitivity settings and adjust the ironmask to suit their individual preferences.

Of course they adjust their thresh-hold settings to just a personal whisper as all our hearing level different.

The finds that they get are beyond belief and its worth a thought about the settings that they are using.

Today many of us had a very ordinary day but using the above settings one XS user pulled out a 300 year old pure gold posy ring bearing the words in old English on the inside saying "SOE-DECREED + SOE AGREED"

Well its just a thought that it makes life so simple while getting the required results.:clap:Jerry.

I have voiced several times that new users should stay with factory settings until they are comfortable with the machine and ready to make other adjustments. Maybe after reading your post it might do us all well to go back to basics..........Nah

Show me a person that has the patients of clam, does his research and has great detecting technique and I'll show a person who can detect with the best of them using any type of machine out there. You're right, you don't have to stray too far from the basics to find some nice goodies if you're willing to work at it.

Greetings JBM,
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. The factory settings are designed for a "turn on and go", that is designed around coins and jewelry. I used the quick start settings for quiet some time, only lowering the threshold to barely audible. Now I have adjusted the variability to 8, and the limits to 10. Also I hunt with deep on and the sensitivity at about 22. I tried fast on and deep at the same time Saturday for the first time. The soil was piles of dirt that were piled up from sidewalk and road removal. Super trashy and allot of iron. It was somewhat unstable so I went back to deep on. Basically, just a few settings works fine. Happy Hunting Grounds,
