Explorer sounds/possible problem

I posted a message a few days ago regarding noises my Exp II is making. I appreciate if you responded to my request for your input.
I am thinking of sending the detector back to the factory depending if these are normal or not noises/symtoms.
Here is what is happening: Regardless of my sensitivity settings or coil, my Exp II makes a low toned thunk noise as the coil finishes its pass over a target (even happens during air tests). It kind of sounds like the sound just falls off the target and hits the gound. It will sound on a target but not very repeatable. Also, sometime the pin pointing mode sounds kind of pulsating over the target making it difficult to pinpoint. Do these sound like normal Explorer II responses?
I sure would hate to b e without my new machine for a while. <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">

Try the classroom where "Cody"delivers some good answers to "tech" questions!

Get on the Phone with a tech from Minelab U.S.A. and explain fully..Without knowing your settings and general hunting areas would be be just guesses at best...Nice people who may straighten you out without a trip to the factory..

in addition to your settings.
yes, the pinpoint function pulsates over the target, this is normal. when it pulsates the loudest, you're centered correctly over the target.

you'll probably be best off calling a Minelab tech like Dan/Pa suggested.

I hear the thunk sound on just about any target. Most targets buried and I have air test strips on tape that include all new coins, all silver coins, and an assortment or trach to include tab, foil, bottle cap...
Thanks

Thanks for your suggestion. I purchased this detector from Kellyco and recieved it on 1/9/05. Effectively it is brand new.
I spoke with the tech support people at Kellyco and they couldn't figure out if anything is wrong. They want me to return my machine for their testing. I would reather not loose the detector for a couple weeks unless I really have to.
I'll try and call Minelab on Monday. Do you know their phone number?
Thanks,
Kalvin

the processor id'ing your target after analyzation and locking on to a digital number or crosshair location.
i'm kind of thinking there's nothing wrong with your machine.
but, i still agree with Dan/Pa, call a Minelab tech. i'm sure they'll be glad to help.

If you could somehow record that sound then maybe you could play it back for one of the techs over the phone. I'm new to the EXll myself and I notice that at the end of each swing (over a target) I get a little "thud" if you will but I would have to agree that it sounds more like the machine locking onto the target after ID'ing it. My two cents hope it helps.

Ed,
Thanks for your idea. I was thinking of putting the phone to the earpnones when I call them on monday. The noise may be it locking onto the target but my noise is louder than the target beep and often cuts off the target sounds.
Thanks again for the idea and I will see if I can find a recorder to do this.
Kalvin
