Explorer xs And Ex2

Could I get some opinions on these two detecters?
really is it worth trading a real nice XS in on a new Ex2? If a guy trys to sell the Ex2, He has a real hard time getting $800 for them in a week after the sale. Is the Ex2 really that much better?
I would like to hear from both owners.
Thanks

If you already have a nice XS not worth trading up.
I have both and see no performance difference b'twn them.
The 2 has a few new features I use ( 1/4" headphone jack, threshold adjustment, quicker cursor and depth reading)and dual digital (I don't use) but it does not affect my finds in any way.
I h ave actually found my XS to be more stable in some situation vs the E2. I'm sure the reverse holds true also.
Some have posted that they went back and hit the spots that they pounded with the XS and found more with the E2. I have also done that but I do not think it was because of the E2. I think ground conditions, attitude etc play more of a role.
Case in point. I just took my OLD XS back to an iron riddled area of a park that I pounded with the XS last year. Then again with the E2. Guess what the OLD XS found? 3 Wheaties and a silver dime in about an hour. Just a different day, different ground condition and maybe a different angle.
Now if money is no big deal, then go for the E2 and enjoy.
Just my opinion!!

I have hunted some of the same sites for years and always manage to come up with a few targets.
Anyone who has a proper working XS would be crazy to role the dice for another Explorer.

they are different for sure.
when i had dropped the sensitivity on my xs just a few numbers, depth loss was substantial. not true with the xsII i have. i think most folks who have tried both will agree. you can drop the sensitivity down on the xsII and it's still deep. they're different for sure in some ways.
the depth reading seems to be different too. sometimes targets are deeper than the depth guage indicates with the xsII. at least this is what i've experienced.
i can't say that i noticed a faster processor speed with the xsII. maybe there isn't that much difference there.
when i tested them side by side though, using the same high sensitivity settings, i couldn't tell any difference in detection depth. i was testing deep coins.
the xsII gives you two numbers for id in the digital mode, ferrous and conduct, while the xs only gives you a conduct number. the dual numbers of the xsII are great for targets up to about 5-6" deep. any deeper than that and you probably better be using the smartscreen or those numbers will be jumping all over the place.
first time out with my new xs, the fricken yoke cover fell off and was laying in the yard. i thought....what the hell? i come to find out later....oh that happens all of the time to the xs. some don't even have a yoke cover anymore. probably lost in the woods somewhere. hee hee.
then, after one more use, the thing went BONKERS. the menu button now turned on the backlight. so i couldn't access the menu, and the backlight button didn't do anything, geeez. i thought what a pos, only owned it for like two weeks. had to send it in for warranty work, needed a new touch screen. after that, it was fine. good thing i had bought a new ploder with a warranty.
after that, my ploder was hot, i was digging stuff up like i couldn't believe. conn. copper, LC, seated, dozens of silvers from the deep, weeeeeee.
oh...and that's another difference. the touchpad buttons on the xsII are clickier, feel stronger.
but, what really attracted me to the xsII though was the 4 year free warranty special, and $50 rebate, got a free 8" ML coil with it too. whoopee! well. it's worth something.
the new lower rod on the xsII is just awesome compared to the old xs lower rod. but, guess what? the new black lower rod fits the xs too, so you can just buy one and put it on the xs.
when i got my xsII, then i could retract the lower rod, and it made it easier to store and transport.
that old style lower rod will jamb up, grind up, and will get stuck. it fricken wobbles, bends, and flexes like a 2 iron flex shaft. in my opinion, it's a pos!
so, the choice is yours, ploder or xsII.
anyway, i hope this helps.
and that's my story, and i'm sticking to it.

Neither does a faster response, or a new "improved" armrest (I have a better one) I already have the new lower shaft, and my thrershold is just right.(wasn't on the Ex2)
So I already have the "edge" It's called using what works and it's not an EX2, it's better.

i found the xsII to actually be more stable than the xs.
i can run the sensitivity higher on the xsII.

What is your main type of hunting? If you are in the middle of a field/trees and away from urban areas, I would agree with you.
I can run my E2 and XS Wide Open when relic hunting but in the parks my XS is usually 1-2 points higher.
I at times think the E2 may have a little better sensitivity to smaller targets, but her in CA that makes it more susceptible to the ground noise also. I also have pretty mineralized soils here in CA vs what I used to hunt in VA. (Lived in Richmond 97-2000)
Just my take on it. Even running a point or two lower, I am confident that I am not losing anything in regards to depth with the E2.
You also have to take into effect that every Explorer machine/coil is not exactly the same and some may be a little hotter than others. Maybe I got a "cold" E2 that likes to be a point lower!!

and i noticed the biggest difference in old pa. parks.
but also here in a va. cornfield, my xsII is stable sometimes at sensitivity 32. not sure what marc can run his xs at in the same field.
i think the xs has a little better sensitivity to smaller targets than the xsII.
hmmm, makes you wonder.
my xsII is definately more stable and quiet than the xs i had. can't explain that. maybe the machines are that individual and different.

because the Ex2 I had was wacked out in the middle of no where and a place I have never had problems at in years.
I really do believe many Explorers have been sold off without the owners even realizing they had a problem.

i was actually talking about other posts i had read where the owners would say the xsII was unstable and they couldn't take the sensitivity up past 20 manual or something like that.
i really don't understand those posts folks made. maybe they had bad ones, because i can crank the sensitivity on mine.

at least not until someone makes a detector that goes deeper or my XS dies. The only problem I ever had was with the lower shaft but now I have the new lower shaft and all is good. I have never used the II but my hunting partner does. Will the II find more deep goodies? Yes and no, it depends on the site. In an old park in Pa Dale dug a nice old seated dime that I missed. I know I passed over the exact spot. A few weeks ago I dug a couple deep wheaties that Dale missed at an old motel site. He had dug wheats no more than 3 inches away. I never have any problem with sensitivity. I can run it at 32 at most places but I usually keep it at 26. I believe that the two machines are so close in performance that as long as your XS aint broke then keep on digging

I havent found a site yet that the sensitivity was a problem with my XS. I believe that if you compared two XSs they would probably act slightly different and the same for the IIs
