Explorer XS problem

Picked up my XS to do a little hunting and the detector would not turn on. Tried different battery pack ( good voltage), tried different coil. Before I send it in to Minelab hoped maybe someone would have a simple suggestion to cure problem.

The only option you can try is to open the detector housing and check the battery connectors .The on off power switch could be faulty too. Not a great deal you can do really......

Could be the touch pad went bad, happened to me on my X-terra 50 had to send it back to Minelab. Give Sandy a call at Minelab she will help you.

and over night.

Make sure that when you do put the battery pack in it is a fresh Alkaline pack).

If this does not work, then you will probably need to have the switch control panel replaced.

It's a fiddly job and if your not up to it then send it in.

Last time I needed to do this, Minelab could only supply an XS2 control/switch panel and I ended buying one and fitting it myself.

It was the same panel, only it said EX2 on it.

The other possibility is that the printed circuits boards on the inside MAY have to be reseated. This to, needs a little bit of care when attempting it as there are gold pins involved that can be easily bent and broken.

There are possibly a couple of other reasons as to why this problem has occurred( it might require a pc board or two replaced)but the first time it happened on my Explorer XS( some 8 years ago) Minelab were happy to simply change the control/switch panel.

That unit's control panel is now on another and it works fine.

Hey Dave: I did just what you said. I really did not think it would work so I was in no hurry to install the alkaline battery pack. I finally did and you could have knocked me over with a feather...It worked. I can't thank you enough. I really learned something......Jack

Not sure if it's a very permanent fix, though it has been for one of my Ex XSs. It did the same thing a couple of times but has never done it again since using the alkalines only for it's battery pack.

It was also a VERY big surprise and a relief for me, when I got my XS working in the same way.

I'm curious as to what causes this fault in the first place.

Cheers
