Explorer XS Upgrade

Reading all of the post's lately it appears the vast majority of you are using the EX 11. Can anyone tell me the real advantages to up-grading from my XS, which I am extremely comfortable with to the new explorer 11. The only thing I see are the 2 numbers vs. the single. It is very rare I hunt in numbers anyway and go by sound 99% of the time. These things are expensive no matter how you look at it, so any input would be appreciated on my part, Thank You

just got off of the phone with a friend of mine ,dont want to mention any names ,but we were just talking about that if you hunt in smartfind there the same. basically save your money .buy a wot coil thats a better investment.

Thanks Bunn, I sort of thought that but wanted another input from someone. I already have the 15" WOT and it is a great coil in the right areas, had to get the Swingy Thing as it got to heavy for me.

I'm not sure hes right on that. Wait for some more replies. I am fairly sure the EX II has a faster recovery speed among other things.

as far as depth and the important stuff im right, yes little things like threshold setting is more adjustable, the lower shaft is different but overall youll have the same machine but it will be new and it comes witha built in stand so it wont roll over i have both machines, i bought the2 because my xs was wore out.

Explorer II has been to the design studio. It is now an attractive combination of black and beige in appearance. The new Explorer II graphics on the handle are very bold and the whole machine looks ready for action. It feels great due to the seamless fit of the new black coil and new carbon fibre lower shaft.

The coil cable access panel is gone - instead this area is exposed and the coil cable is fed up through the newly designed round carbon fibre shaft. This is a major change and in a way is rather nostalgic by bringing back a traditional round lower shaft design but instead built with 21st-century materials. Other good news is the coil cable is still hidden and unlikely to catch on foliage.

A new front panel with Explorer II graphics has been introduced with new darker colours, and the tactile push buttons now feel much better with just very gentle touches operating the many functions. All function buttons are the same as on the older XS model with just one slight position change to the 'Power ON/OFF' button, so the Explorer II should be immediately familiar to seasoned XS users.

The screen's visibility has improved by use of an easier to see through material. Finally the new arm-rest material, also colored black, is of a stronger, more flexible material than the older, Explorer XS model. Overall, it is a seriously good-looking detector!
There are a number of operational differences to be found in Explorer II compared to that of the XS. This is due to the faster and more efficient 2nd Generation Explorer Software. These differences include:

wow! i better buy another one i didnt realize i had a whole new machine, but the machine is only as good as the user, and if its not there no machine can find it ,the xs is just as good dont waste the money unless you just have to have it. im done with this topic good luck.

Taking a different approach when I first got the Explorer when they came out I was disappointed with the quality of craftsmanship. Since all repairs and upgrades were finally done, as each one broke, I now have a good machine that I have learned after a fashion. Once the finds started coming as in old coins and for my area I'm talking 1880 type coins as being old our club members took notice of the steady showing in our finds of the month. After a couple of years you start getting the cute remarks " NO MINELABS ALLOWED ON THE NEXT HUNT " I am now noticing the older hunters turning to the Minlab after using other top brands for years. Because of this I suspect other user's thru out the States are finding this out also and the only thing on the market today is the Explore 11, even E-Bay sells the older Explorer fast and pricey. Think I'll wait until it breaks and maybe use it as a back up. JB

Its a matter of preference. I use DIGITAL because my first Explorer was an XSII. Learned it, and stuck with it. DIGITAL and SMARTFIND give the same information in different presentations. SMART is graphical and DIGITAL is the actual numbers. It is exactly the same information. One can split up the SMART screen to represent the DIGITAL number with a grid and vice versa. /bing
