Explorers

Are all the explorers basically the same machine? I have been thinking about getting one but don't know what the difference is between the XS, SE and Exp II, any info will be greatly appreicated. Thanks, John

SE is a little faster than the Exp II which is a little faster than the XS. There are some minor differences. I have an XS and SE and I don't feel the SE noticeably outperforms the XS, in fact I like the pinpoint better on the XS. The new pro coil is a must have over the old stock coils on any of the models. The E-Trac is a fair amount different though, but still an Explorer despite what they say - I call it the Explorer III.

I have seen on the classifieds where several explorers have been for sale at good prices. Sounds like the EXp II is the middle machine, might concentrate on that one. I'd go for the Etrac but that's alot of money. Thanks and good hunting. John

the fact that the SE will ID in all metal pinpoint mode.:)

That little difference right there is what I use as the final decision maker on whether or not to dig a deep iffy signal.

The vco pinpoint gives a very big edge on helping to zero in and ID a questionable deep target. I love to watch the cursor "flutter" over deep ifffy high pitched hits when I'm using the all metal pinpoint mode. If that cursor flutters along the top to top right...I'm diggin':clapping:

Many hunters don't like that pinpoint feature on the SE...but to me...it's the best improvement they made to the explorers.

One thing about the EXII though...it does seem to handle iron better than the SE does. I have been using both lately.

this is a nice feature for shure, the E-Trac has that and more, it's like a "super Explorer" in many ways. I know Bryce likes the VCO pinpoint, it's definitely easier to use and louder, I just don't like the tone myself - sounds like bees buzzing around your head and it can get quite loud....the old ratcheting type pinpoint was better for me as once you got the hang of it it was dead on too and easier on the ears. When you heard that sputtering signal you knew you had a super deepie under the coil!

Bryce, I feel pretty stupid. I sold my Explorer 11 last spring and got the SE. I never watch the screen when I am pinpointing with the SE as I am concentrating on the hot spot on the ground. After having many Explorers, I didn't think I had to read any manuals or books. I guess I was wrong. I will try giving the screen a peak tomorrow while pinpointing. R.L.

Hi buddy. Haven't heard from you in a while...so I hope all is well with you.

I'll tell you what...I use the pinpoint in a big way at the pounded sites I hunt.
I have to do a lot of signal chasing...and the final decision maker for me is what the cursor does on the screen.
If I get a sweet sound...but it's pretty iffy and breaking up...that can still sometimes be silver. However...if when I hit the pinpoint...and the cursor moves to the left side of the screen...I'm walkin'.

If it stays anywhere on the right side though...and especially anywhere along the top right side...or "moves" back and forth along the top right side. ...brother....I'm diggin':clapping:

Take care RLOH

Bryce, thanks for the info on the pinpointing, i never use pinpointing to find a target never had a problem with finding my target.
but your info i think i will be using it and see how that works.

Hi Mike.

No problem buddy. Most of the time I don't have a problem locating the target...but the info the pinpoint gives me on the SE really helps me out.

It is big help on ID'ing deep iron before I wast the time of digging it.

It isn't 100% foolproof...but of course nothing is. It is a very accurate weapon when you make the final attempt at ID'ing the target.

Take care

It's been quite the helpful little feature for me since I figured out what it did. Well at least since he pointed it out to me anyway.
if I get get my stinking coil to pass over a good target I am getting better at learning what iron does. .Signals just seem to be sparse for me though.
