Extra deep pinpointer?

CampCache

New member
Sometimes out in the field we hit some really good deep targets that we never recover. Most of this is because after digging the hole we loose signal on the object. The hole is not large enough to get the coil into and the Propointer just isn't strong enough to pick up the signal since it may be a lot deeper. We just fill the hole back in and move along. So I got to thinking about something that is larger that I would be able to carry around and still be able to get better depth on the target. I have an Ace250 that rarely gets used and I also have a sniper coil for it. What I thought about doing was making the Ace250 rod much shorter. If it was like my X70 I would just remove the middle pole and call it good.
Has anyone done something like this or is there another product out there that will go beyond what the Propointer will detect?

Have seen a few use a similar setup using the Tesoro Silver Sabre in the micro control box or what ever its called using a really cut down shaft setup and the 4'' coil,it does work really well, but then its only any good if you have a spare detector laying around like which you have,no set design for one but its worth a go.

I have and still use a hand held body body security scanner like the ones that Garrett make, although mine is not a Garrrett its similar is design and of course so much cheaper to buy,its just a bigger version of a pinpointer i guess,as i mentioned i got mine dirt cheap bran new from Ebay and it does the job pretty well, although its not a every day use probe as i mainly use it for when i suspect a deep hoard but i do carry it in the truck with me all the time just incase.

As a result of it only being used a few times a year i cannot see me investing a great amount of money when a el-cheapo hand body scanner does the job for me,i think it cost me about $20 about 4 years back but they still sell the hand scanners on Ebay so that maybe a option for you, they of course are not specifically made for deep detecting targets but just using something thats cheap and does the job, plus it comes with a belt holster so that you can carry it around with you.

Just a few suggestions

What pinpointer do you have? The TRX will go 4"

The signal does not disappear. I have found that using a Whites V3i that by altering Ground Balance to at least +1 these targets will stay positive. What happens is that these large Iron targets that hit a false positive will shift negative below the GB level. They are too deep for your Pinpointer and will not Pinpoint on your Detector because of GB. So far a Sunray Inline for me is the best Pinpointer. I like a Pistol Probe but it is not loud enough. The Whites TRX is close but it also suffers from a Volume Problem.
