Received my F-2 today and I am totally impressed so far... Great looking unit...
I guess for the money I expected a little "cheaper" made detector... Even the coil
is nice and sturdy.. Again, I thought maybe it would be a little thinner and not
quite as well built as it is... I've put the machine together and done some air testing
so far... It makes me think of a Whites Classic ID, with the addition of notch, depth
indicator, battery indicator, tones, and a digital meter 1 thru 99 to help sort out things that seem to fall into
the same catagory in the top 8 buckets... I have owned and used many detectors in my
30+ years of detecting and this machine is a keeper in my book.... Oh yeah, the 4" coil
and lower rod is a nice bonus also.....

are you able to get out and use it?.or,are you like the majority of the rest of us and snow bound until april?
i bought one after xmas,and am waiting with "breathless" anticipation until snow out!

Hi Jeff,

There have been some high negatives from some folks who used the F2 and was really sweating when i ordered mine and had to wait 2 weeks and read the bad reviews.I've been pleasantly surprised with the F2 performance at trashy sites and have well over 50 hrs use mainly with the 4" coil. Haven't found anything that great but pulled about 20 wheats and 2 silvers and a bunch of clad and some junk jewelry so far. The tones are clear and the meter works surprisingly well and helped distinguish nickles from pulltabs at shallow depths. Recovery speed is very quick in the field and think you'll find it's very sensitive to small lower conductive targets as well as the hightones.Haven't seen much on overall depth capabilities but 4"to 5" using the small 4" coil is within my finds to date. My biggest complaint is tipping over easily when you set it down to dig as the armcuff stand is too small for that big control box :shrug:.Would like to see someone with your experience give an honest opinion of the F2. I am thinking of getting my Dad and 11 year old daughter each a Fisher F2 unit..I have heard good things about it from most users
and It seems to be well built..great info..
 
Thats really a nice gesture. I hope you do get them one.
Nothing brings people and families together better than doing

Yea, I have heard some mixed results about the F2 as well.
For the most part though, people just starting out have been
really happy with their machines. If there IS a problem with the
machine Fisher will make it right.

The Ace 250 is ok but I think they will like the F2 better.

Hi Bill,
I just don't see a lot of negatives with the F-2... Mine airtested a quarter around 8+"
and a dime, penny and nickel at about 7+"... I have a quarter in my test garden at 7"
and a dime at 6"; both have been there around 5 years... Both are laying flat... The 7" quarter
reads quarter and the meter doesn't lock on 82 like it does in an airtest but stays within a couple
numbers, so I consider that really good.. The dime at 6" tries to lock on dime but will move to quarter
occasionally... The numbers move around more than the quarter signal but still stay within 4 or 5 numbers
of 72 in either direction... It also reads in airtest a nickel at 33 and a new pulltab at 34 or 35... I would say
you can tell the difference in a nickel and a pulltab with pretty good accuracy at shallow depths 2 - 3"... After a few
inches the numbers would mix and you would just have to dig all nickel / pulltab signals that were close to make sure...
Speed of recovery and pinpointing is super fast and easy... I can say it's a very solid built machine thats worth every
penny I paid for it... These guys that don't like it must be trying to compare it to a CZ 70, Explorer, or something along
those lines... I have used them and that's not what this is; but it doesn't cost $1,000 either... ha ha.. The F-2 will be
a great all around machine to use for coin shooting with depths expected in the 0 to 8" range.. With great ID in the first 4",
good ID in the next 2" and the whispers between 6 and 8" will give a good indication but you will just have to dig those to make sure
if you are relying on the meter to tell you to dig or not... But honestly this about the same thing I would say on my X-Terra 50
and it didn't cost $199.00... ha ha ha.....

I live in West Tennessee, so our weather just comes and goes...
It was 74 deg here Sunday and the high on Tuesday was around 36 deg...
But not snow to speak of; so yes.. I plan on doing a little detecting this weekend
using the F-2.....

^ Take that puppy outside and dig some real targets. On the F4 (which the F2 should operate in a similar fashion) the TID's lock on targets very well up to around 6" or so deep (depending on soil, coil, etc), once you get past 6-8" they get jumpy, or if there's multiple targets (including non-notched out trash) they can be jumpy.

I've owned 2 Ace-250's... There is no question that the F-2 is a better
value all the way around in my book....

keep us informed on how you do!..i am pleased with what i have heard so far from you and others!..i have been hunting a long time,and i feel that there is still a ton of stuff that's been walked over in very trashy areas,and i am gonna use the little f2 for that purpose...i feel that with the combination of target id,tones,and depth reading,that these ARE the tools you need to do well in the trash..the f2 has the RIGHT features for this very noble pursuit!..and the price was a deal maker for me!
if you can get down to the 6 or 7" level then,in my view you have plenty of depth for the challenging parks..etc..etc...here in new england,have been hunting 30 years,and MOST of the old stuff came out at the 4,5,and 6" depths..occasionally,i would find something at the 8" depth,but not very often at all,and i am talkling
large cents,bust,seated,barbers,mercs,and 1700's colonial coins!!..no i think the f2 will do just fine around here!

I just got the 10" concentric coil for my F4, so I'm hoping it'll do well in the 8" + depth arena. I'm planning to take it and my Coinstrike out this weekend. I found an old unhunted (old being c. 1900 here in CA) home across the tracks from an old transcontinental railroad depot I plan to hunt this weekend. I'm curious to see if the 10" coil goes deeper then the DD coil, as the 10" should be a lot easier to pinpoint with then the DD.

...3 or 4 targets in a row, on the surface... How far must they be separated to get individual signals with a normal sweep speed?

I am less than pleased, in that respect, with the Little Yeller Feller, using a standard coil.

Well one things for sure I have a few great places to try the F2 out along with my F75..I know all 3 of us will need to stay seperated
a good distance for sure..Its sure gonna be fun..gonna place the Big order for 2 units soon..I wonder which unit is better for notching out old Iron the F2 or ace 250..

R M P T R - assuming that the F2 & F4 are effectively the same MD (I have the F4), target response and recovery is VERY fast (real time).
 
Target response is fast... Using the 8" coil and laying 3 dimes in a row they have to be about 3" maybe a little less apart
to get 3 distinct beeps when going over them.... Using the 4" coil they have to be about 2" or just a little less apart to get
3 distinct beeps... This says that it would do well with either coil in trashy sites picking good targets from the bad....

^ That sounds about right Jeff. If you use the DD coil, it's even better, because the search field is narrow, but long.
