F 4 to Alaska

I plan on going to Alaska for three months in May camping from San Diego Ca to Alaska taking my F4, my fishing pole and my wife. I have some questions about metal detecting along the way. Can I use the F4 in water, should I get a rain cover and has anyone hunted gold nuggets, if so please let me know the best way. I will be posting my finds when I get back. Thanks everyone.
 
all the fisher coils are waterproof i believe as far as nugget hunting you should find a small matchead sized nugget at a pawn shop or ebay and see if your f4 will read it, i know the f70 and f75 will but there are a higher freq you might want to ask this question on the gold prospecting forum good luck hh
