f-5 battery box:help:

Has anyone had any problems with certain batteries (9-volt) getting them out of the battery box? I had two new "energizers" in the battery box ,but had a  of a time getting them out:confused: Maybe need to find another brand?Appreciate any information.cjm

I have not found any batteries that go in smoothly. I have had a real bad time with cheap batteries(Harbor Freight, Dollar General, or any off brand) Energizers are as good as any. You cannot start the battery with too much angle.Push the battery firmly toward the contacts with a slight angle while pushing down. It feels bad and several times I thought I was going to break the contacts, but nothing bad ever happened. With over five years of use on two F5's, I still never feel comfortable changing the batteries. Thankfully, the two nine volts last a long time. Good luck.

I've had my F5 for over 3 years and everytime I have to change batteries I always feel I'm having to put to much pressure on them to get them to snap in and worry about breaking the battery box. So far so good.

I started with Energizers and couldn't figure out why they were so hard to push in and take out. I tried a few other brands I had on hand and the easiest to put in were Duracell copper tops (not Quantum). The regular black and copper toned variety.

When they go on special somewhere, I buy a few packs.

between makers. Years ago I bought some Duracell batteries and they would not fit inside a detector (but Energizers did.)
(If you put batteries in, and after they deplete have a problem getting them out, there is a problem from swelling, and will soon leak. Regardless of brand, they will all leak-the better
brands carry a warranty against damage.)

I've noticed that Energizer's have a ridge under the battery that is thicker than the Duracell's and I think that accounts for the fitting issues on the F5. They were hard to put in, hard to take out.

The good news is that batteries are manufactured to industry standard specifications. Says so right on the spec sheet.

The bad news is that in reality, they aren't. And the problem is worst with 9 volt rectangular batteries, where every manufacturer thereof thinks they have some little way of doing it "their way" as a competitive advantage.
