F 70 advice needed..

Just got it in today..I have been hunting w/ the AT Pro and got the 70 as a backup/primary machine if it is better. I have had great success hunting Civil War relics lately and have a hunt coming up this Saturday. I am going to practice w/ the F70 each afternoon until then and use it some Sat. I have watched videos and read the manual as far as settings go. I would like some advice from those of you who have used it in the field. I got the 11 DD coil along w/ the stock 10". The place I am hunting Sat. has very little trash and the mineralization hits at about a 86-87 on the AT Pro. Most relics I have found in this spot are 4-6" deep. It is wooded w/ hardwoods and hilly and easy swinging..What settings are going to get me the best depth? I know everybody has the preferences but I like to learn from experience..Thanks!

i think you will like the f70 i would use the 11 inch coil for relic hunting for deeper targets would run in at mode wich is the all metal mode for coin shooting i liked 3 tones sensitivity start around 60 then go up as you get used to it and have it run smooth threshold start at -3 im sure more will jump in and give ya some advise let us know how it goes hh

Theres a poster here who has both an AT Pro and an F70. I think its Coinseeker? Memory this am is not really awake yet. Anyway, the wide variety of tone settings and finding one you are comfortable with should keep you busy. You dont have to run a high sens for success, just a balanced program for the site and situation. Theres been some awesome finds by several members here that are relic or deep target hunters, and from reading the forums, I think you have a winning pair with the two detectors you have. They seem to be very complementary and easy to go from one to the other. Let us know what you think, and post us a picture of your finds!

Gotten a couple .50 cal musket ball drops this year, one at 7" and it rang in very nicely, loud and clear just below the zinc range, around high 50's I think it was. The other balls I've found this year were shallower, one small caliber ball, maybe around .36-.38, fired and fairly out of round at about 3" but also very clear and a little higher than the others a couple weeks ago in an old parkway.

Yesterday i was out with a newbie and he picked up a nice .50 cal dropped ball with a good bit of sprue on it still at about 7" and it rang up like a nickel on his Exp II, and I find those ranges of values/reads do carry over well fairly well between the two machines.

I usually crank it up in disc mode, disc'ed to 21 and sense as far as I can get it. Most often around 95 and thresh between 0 and max (+9) where possible.

The place where we were yesterday for instance is an old family home site that has become a park relatively recently so there is virtually no trash and the dirt is good to go at GB of around 65-70 so I can crank out the F70 and that helps with the deeper coinage there. If I were to hit a nailbed there then I'd be all over the board resetting the values until I could pick something out of the nails. But if it's good ground and in a wooded, not too messy area, crank it up and let it do it's thing.

I don't use the at mode much because my ears really are worthless in defining the differences between targets in at mode. So my only suggestion is get used to running it full-on, and then you'll know how and when to reduce it to useable levels when the needs arises and as the site dictates.

Hi Eagledigs. I have found some neat relics this spring. Large cents, buckles,buttons,bullets, axe heads etc..... Here in MA. the settings I use in the woods with the 11DD. I try to max out the sensitivity. Threshold -3 and up. DE mode. I haven't played with AT enough. Tones 3H is what I like. I keep disc around 15 -23. This seems to work for me. GB depends on the site I'm working. But. I've pulled large cents as deep as 9". Same with a lot of my buckles and buttons. Now larger items like axe heads and horse shoes have been very deep. Which I find. Never posted pics of them though. Just the good stuff. Hope this helps. Good luck. HH Tim

if your looking for relics at that depth, theres not much you need to do to the f70, if you want relics a little deeper, always adjust thresh-hold before sensitivity. adjust the sensitivity as high as you can.. always. The f-tones are just different types of tones you can use "basically just choose one" I personally like 3H gives me a high beep for upper 70+, med. tone for mid range and low tone for iron/foil/nails. If you looking for relics depending on the size, you gotta dig it all If you start to get a lot of chatter, ground grab again before making any adjustments.
