F 70 - first time in 3 years!

I got a wild hair and took the F70 to the local park this morning.
I haven't been detecting in well over three years, so it was a bit of a re-learn.
I turned it on and just started out with the previous settings:
DISC: 1
SPEED: de
SENS: 80
THRESH: 1
# Tones: 3H
NOTCH: 1

Now, I don't know where I last used my F70, but I'm guessing it was a clean field or woods.... These settings were WAY too hot for a foil laden tot lot.
This park is an overlay, too, meaning soil and sand over native earth. It was the site of an older home, also, so deep iron will drive you nuts at these settings.
After a bit, I found the Fisher was more manageable at lower SENS levels (50) and reduced threshold(0). I don't notch or discriminate, relying on the tones to help. It still wanted to hit on deep screw caps and iron, though, but not as bad and I could determine these with a bit of digging and pinpoint work

Managed to scoop a few clad keepers -

Usual suspects to the left, gleanings right.
Considering the 100+ years of the surrounding neighborhood, I was a little disappointed to find nothing vintage.
But it happens that way.

Those are some good looking targets! Yeah, this 70 is pretty hot...Ive not ever run it over mid 60 sens, and not any higher than a -3 thresh..my ears just cant handle it, but I know its there if I ever need it...in the totters I'm running a 37-45 sens, with a 4 disc and DP tones, getting tight to the poles and not missing a thing I dont think...Really glad you are back and hunting!:clapping:

Thanks, mud!
I'll give those tot lot settings of yours a try next time. I've found three more tot lots nearby, and I know of a few more to boot.
The knees don't work like they used to, so I seek out the sand and wood chip pits when I can.
Im a three tone man, though, and I like to hear the iron. Comes from my relic days, I suppose.

But thanks for the comments! I may be back to swinging....

I remember that smoking baby when I first joined here! You can still hear iron in DP...I was going to try 4H once, for the nickels.. but never have departed from DP for gosh, 3yrs now?

I absolutely love hunting totlots, especially woodchip ones... I have gravel, sand, and chip tots on my route...the pea gravel are the toughest, so I'm sure the 70 is the rig to hunt them with...I doubt anybody new to this can go through a hotrock infested gravel totter with any sort of complete success...

The car lot at this park is filled with what folks in the South call, "crush and run."
It's basically crushed igneous rock, as appeared to smooth gravel, so it tends to give detectors fits.
The F70 is no exception, as I learned this morning.
But if I reduce SENS EVEN MORE and back off the trigger threshold, I'm thinking it might shake out a few finds.
I've had fair coin counts and an occasional ring come from parking aprons, so it's worth adding to the search pattern, at least for a few grid passes.
The 3H tone setting suits me, something I've gravitated to from my Golden uMax days. I think of the F70 as a Golden on steroids, in fact.
I like that 3H gives low squawks for iron, midrange notes for foil, tabs, ztincers and screw caps, and a high pitch for coins and nickels. Now me, I tend to dig everything that gives a repeatable signal, regardless of its number. As long as it isn't obviously iron and I can make it stick, I'm gonna at least check it out.

The smoking baby?
That's been my avatar here for a long time. There were others before that, but, I dunno.... that one just sticks, you know?
