F-70

Considering a new F70 for relic hunting. It's at the limit of my budget. Have been told that it matches the standard F75 in depth, just less options. Anyone here use this machine to relic hunt ? What is your opinion of it in this capacity ?
I'm also stuck on the coil choice, Stock concentric or 11" DD. The soil here is very mild.

Good unit. Go with the 11" dd, great coil.

That's two votes for the 11"DD,great detector had a bit of a learning curve for coin shooting, but it goes deep and should be great for relic hunting.

I've got an F70 with the 11"dd as well...I cant say I've hunted specifically for relics with it, but have dug some deep stuff off the sand when I'm hunting the beaches..I generally use it for fast and fun coin and jewelry hunting. Swung hard for 3 years straight in all sorts of weather with no service issues. It is very light and comfortable.

First let me say you will either love or hate the F70. It is probably one of the best medium level units there is when it comes
to doing what it was intended to do. I am using mine with a concentric 10 inch coil so I can't give any opinion on any DD coils available.
With valuable tools like the dirt meter, confidence meter, ground balance, and a nice choice when it comes to tone alerts, you will have quite an
arsenal at your finger tips to access your targets. Let me also say the F5 is also a serious contender for the intermediate dollar spent.
It took me almost 5 months to really understand how to bust most of the false signals you will be bombarded with when you start to get brave
and run the F70 hot. In my style of detecting I have discovered that many of the false signals originate from iron, deep, shallow, large and small
so I am thinking the 70 would be really good for relics even tho I am only just starting to get curious about the ones generating the best attempts at false coin signals
and have dug some interesting things such as a bell from the top of an old alarm clock along with the internal gears that appear to be brass.
The nice thing about the concentric is I don't have the problems of the coil liking bottle caps as coins. I really have to examine the flat lying stay tabs and folded foil
and watch the VID numbers because the concentric likes them as nickel tones. Watching them closely will bust them about 90 percent of the time. Round foil seals
come in at a 20 to 22 VDI and will really look just like a small gold ring would look as pointed out by Revier whom I consider a pro with the F2. I have yet to find a ring
but its nice to know what they will sound like.
I have not wanted to upgrade coils because I want to learn this units every quirk before adding to it. I run delta pitch with discrimination set only at 1 since you will
still get false signals from notched out medals and by using delta pitch, a tone will be assigned to the iron so you know it is there without the need to constantly watch
your screen. When hunting cleaner sites I have also been experimenting with slow
speed instead of default. In the default mode a corroded stinkin Zincoln will try to false into the dime and even quarter range. When set in the slow
mode you will get 2 or more inches of depth with the same sensitivity setting and only a pre 1984 penny will try to false to a dime and never to a quarter unless you
find a rare one with corrosion. I seem to have the tendency to go into warp speed with this very fast machine which is just fine for fresh drops. If you want to slow
down and learn more about this units capabilities, it will get into very precise detail also. I just hunted an old campground site where some old thick wall copper tubing
was left. Nearly wet my pants when I heard tha sweeeeeeeeet tone with a 95 on the VID. At least I think it was copper. After digging it still rang up a 90.
Don't let this unit overwhelm you Stick with it, learn it, you won't be sorry-HH and Gl

Got the F70 I love it, it's deep and fast. I also use the 11dd and the 6 inch coil, mostly hunt beaches, parks, and old sites for coins and jewlry. This machine will get deep, so deep in fact I have been embarrassed of the hole I was working with lol. I have pulled quarters out at 12-13 inches in deep moist sand. The machine has a learning curve, but well worth it to me.

I've used the F70 for Civil War relic hunting for, wow, 3 - 4 years now. I use the 11'' DD in hot ground and the stock coil in the woods. Both with good results. It is always my go to detector after my arm gets sore swinging my heay trusted analog! Hope this helps. I love the F70.
