F-75 First MD

Hello All,
I am new to this hobby and just bought my first MD. After reading many comments and talking to a few people I finally purchased a f-75 LTD. If any of you can provide any information to a newbie about any tricks or tips for this model I would appreciate it.

yes ; read the book; then take it for a test drive; then read the book again and more will come to mind with a little experience; then test drive it again ; repeat and repeat; a few times and you will be on your road to lots of enjoyable times. Play with the button and knob and settings; you cant hurt it ; you can always go back to factory preset and start over; best way to learn is to do.
Tones., settings and all are pretty much a personal pref.

Preset ....................... Remember that for the first 50 hours or so........... Only adjust some sensitivity and if erratic back it down till stable.


DO NOT BE AFRAID TO RUN LOW SENS.............. Depth will amaze you.

You will experience a lot of Target hits.......... Not all will be keepers....... Many junk items hit as good targets on ALL metal detectors. Keep at it........you'll soon start to understand the machine.


PS: If you must change things ( WE ALL DO) LOL....... Just do a reset........... Practice by running some coins over the coil to see how they read in the Air... Or on the ground..........
at the top of meter you will see what the range is.But it's a little small to see.. Learn the Large center screen numbers....

I have had my F75SE for a few months and will say, as tempting as it is to run it "hot" with high sensitivity > 60 and disc settings with high gain (below 5 above 19) will be very frustrating unless you can figure out what to ignore (I still pause at every bleep). I find myself running BP mode and sens <50 most of the time with 3H tones. Disc is very site dependant because parks can drive you crazy with all the can slaw if you mainly hunt coins. Maybe when you hunt away from populated areas with less trash then you can crank it. A pinpointer is a must because even if you get proficient at pinpointing with the 11"DD nothing is worse than not finding the target or making a mess doing so. Practice every chance you get - do a master reset if you think you might have notched something wrong or just to make sure before trying a setting you have fewer variables. Be careful if you are cutting plugs in hot dry weather where people might get upset with dead grass- I still spend time in my yard practicing even though there isn't much chance of digging a good target mostly because it is so hot and dry it is absolutely impossible to leave no evidence unless it can be stabbed close to the surface. I did a neighbors yard the other day because we had some rain and even with all the right technique (believe me I take pride in my plugs) I am hoping that they don't say anything of the few small dead patches. This machine is very capable you have to give it time to grow on you.

About all that is left, run that little 5" coil, it will settle the machine down and work on ground balancing.

Thank you all for the suggestions As this will be my first time with a detector I have a lot of reading to do. The other items I ordered where a sand scoop and a garret pin pointer. I think I can scrounge up a good small digger and knee pads. I hope to find a few locations around my house to try it on. My other option is to take a trip to the beach and see how it works in the sand.

The guys have given alot of good info already so I'll add this. 29-30-31 usually a nickel, 59-60-61 usually a zinc penny, 69-70-71 usually a dime or copper penny and 79-80-81 I have found is usually a quarter or a nice silver wedding band the rest comes with practice.

And if you get an urge to wrap your new toy around a tree while learning it ... Don't! Lol just take a breathe and relax. And keep at it.

Learn how to dig and recover carefully so you don't damage the item or the grass your digging in!! I see you said you got a pinpointer that's a great step in reducing damage to target or grass! I also would get a brass coin probe. This is one of the most important things when your detecting is to make the ground look as close to possible as it did before you dig! If you don't do this you hurt yourself and others who enjoy this great hobby.

I agree. Put a coil cover on the F-75, and get a Pinpointer and a Lesche so you can cut a decent plug without minimal turf damage.
You start digging holes with garden trowels--you are looking for a kick out of the park.

Start off in a heavy-trafficked area that is laced with clad and start digging high tones.
