F-75 SE wont ground grab ...

Willee - Texas

Well-known member
My new two day old F-75 SE seems to have a problem.
I tried to ground grab by pushing the trigger forward while pumping the coil from 14" to 1" above ground.
The two digit number stayed on 90.
Very noisy operation ... suspected this was a bogus GB number.
I manually set the GB to 60 and tried ground grab again.
The digits stayed on 60.
Unit ran a lot quieter.

Seems the ground grab just dont want to work.

Sounds like you have a problem with internal GB..Take the batteries out while machine is on..Then try GB in all metal mode after reinstalling batteries..See what happens. Are you using good quality alkaline batteries.... This makes a difference in the F75's.....

PS: Make certain your coil cable is connected all the way into the socket on the head... Push it hard to make certain.

After a factory reset as suggested by gmanlight, I returned to the back yard and tried it again.

After about the 6th pump the two digit number changed to 40 and after a few more pumps it went to 41.
So I think it is now working as it should.

I might add that in BP mode it hits a 9" deep rectangle tab buried years ago that most of my detectors can not detect.
The E-track hasn't a clue that it is down there.
The V3i can barely detect it ... but not very repeatable.
The Shadow X5 can hit it fairly good.
But the F75 SE in BP mode (sen set at 60) hits it with a solid repeatable signal that I would dig in the field.

Why a pulltab?
Because a lot of gold rings will identify in that range.

Willee is that the TWENTY DOLLAR pull tab.
Dam i knew i should have paid you a visit.

Willee recheck the pull tab but this time raise the coil off the ground and
see what you get and let us know. Good Luck Mike

Also does it hit the tab in reg DE mode .

Yep ... that is the one!

There is now about 2" of grass over that spot so the coil is at least that far off the dirt.

I will try the other modes on it and post back here what they do.
Might even make a video of it.

Do you have any bars on your dirt meter when you ground balance. If the ground is very neutral the F75 will not ground balance and will say on the screen cannot ground balance or something like that. You may be surprised at how low you can put your sensitivity and still be able to pick up the tab when set in BP.

Yup!

And if you hit some areas you have pounded before and start pulling out coins that aren't that deep, see if you can tell if they were on edge in the ground. My experience has been that this beast is amazing on coins on edge that have been missed before.
Welcome to the boost mode experience!

Eltons reply is the only one that hit on the solution.
If from time to time your machine wont fast grab..........its the coil wire connection.....every time. either the knurled nut isnt 100% tight............or it just not plugged in all the way. I've seen this happen a number of times,(and not just on my machines) and its the same thing every time. I've had it happen on my origonal F75 no less than a half dozen times. When it happens.........just reach down and twist the nut tighter and see if it doesnt correct the problem immediately. I actually started taking a pair of pliers and gently snugging the nut so that it stayed tight, and it never happened again. For some reason..............the coil wire and nut wants to be 100% tight to work properly............
