F2 Gone, F5 Coming

The F2 has served me well but we had to part. So It's an F5 that's in the mail to me now. Went for the addition of the 5 Inch DD to be included in the package. So more beach work and more searching for pre-decimal silver and pre-decimal gold (I hope). Should even be able to balance out ground in the gold fields if i ever find myself out that way. I'm in Perth WA.

I will be very interested to hear how the f5 compares to the f2. I think at the beach you will appreciate the all metal mode. I find I'm using it more and more with the f4.. its what I was using when I found the gold ring last weekend.

@bthom Well I won't brag, but I did get that F2 working well and have a good idea of it's performance. Once I get going on the F5 I will give you my H opinion. It's just really an upgrade and a bit of extra fun setting the knobs I hope. The F2 was just turn on and go. Will be interesting to see if there is some more Pre-dec' on some old schools? I just don't think the F2 was strong enough to go the extra inches and still give a reasonably accurate id. And now I can get closer to waters edge at the beach, and just turn up the power on the dry sand. Hoping the 5 inch is great for around trees and shade where I find a lot of coins. The 10" x 5 1/2 will do for the more open parks away from the shade. Well it's not even like it cost anything when you take your money from your found funds. I sell my scrap gold at 90% of spot value and that added up real quick. Did you see my coil link?

re coin link...I saw you photo of your $50 dollar day , if thats the one you mean, we are a bit lucky in our respective countries.. I find most high school yield about $15 an hour, modern gold coins, without trying too hard.

@bthom "COIL LINK" hahhahahah but I know you have read it. I had a dream the other night that the F5 was a two part detector and you had to hold the control box in one hand and the coil in the other. Very inconvenient and no where as good as the F2. thankfully it was all a bad dream.

@twoscoots. The chap did not have a 5"DD which was part of the order. So I guess he got one from his supplier and then added it to the box as requested. short answer NO. but I guess it's on its way. Should be here before next (10 days) friday. Then I can swing on the weekend. Might go to and old abandoned school where I have found silver an old penny's. Nice and quiet there so I can be left alone to practice. Might even take two sets of batteries hahahhah
I am In Perth Australia

Alimo88.
You sure have got the detecting bug really bad!:stretcher: I recommend that you get out and find 2 small gold round pills with a bearded man on the back of them. I believe that they read 59 on the meter! Hopefully that will cure the nightmares you are having.
Mick Evans.
P.S. Good luck with the F5.

Thanks Mick. I don't know if you know this. but. I'm a Physics tech at a local uni. So work in the science building with the Chemists and the Mineral sciences (earth and metals). So I enjoy a lot of aspects of detection. Simply the fun part but I also like the science that goes into a detector and like the science that allows a discriminator function. I have a copy of the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics. C.R.C press. Which has all the scientific data in it. stuff like conductance of metals and stuff. my history research will have to come next.
Being in Perth AUS i'm not sure what the item is that you are referring to. please fill me in.
re the F5 the two controls I guess are the one that take some learning and tweaking are the power and threshold. the ground and phase stuff seems pretty self explanatory and is just set to ground conditions.
we dont have much old stuff because we are a newish country in regards coins
the keeper here is a Sovereign or a half sovereign. Both Gold
PS I sold my old gold for 90% spot value. Paid for the F5 but not the extra coil
will post with my first silver picture soon (i hope)
Fisher should make ME their Souther Hemisphere TESTER. hahhahahahah (no Seriously they should)

You'd be a popular bloke if you joined a detecting/gem club. The fellas would be coming up and asking all sorts of questions about using chemicals to clean their gold eta.
I can imagine how the technology can interest you. although that is not my thing; I do enjoy playing around with detectors to see what sort of info I can get out of them.
The object I was referring to, was $2 coins.
Those other gold coins are the stuff that dreams are made of! (Whoops. There we go on dreams again.) I bought a gold sovereign a few years back, just so that I waive it under the coil to know what they come up as. They are the same size as a 10c piece but a bit thinner. If you look up Jewellery Rescues TID chart over on the other forum and go down to the Minelab part of it, you'll find an extensive list of coins. Although it is for the E-Trac, you can find it very useful by comparing notes on where coins show up on the F5, using coins you do have. I think that half sovereigns come in just under a 20c piece. The halves are worth more per weight due to the fact that there are less of them. ( They were melted down over time.)
Mick Evans.

Arrived express usps mail today
Bit more to it than the F2. Might even say a lot more to it.
Tiny bit apprehensive. bit like holding a new baby, but I will cope
Detecting after lunch. Hope to find just gold rings and sovereigns now and leave the junk behind
will keep you all informed

The will be a bit of learning no doubt. all part of the fun.. you will have to give us a running "your thoughts" thing every week or so so we can see how its going. I know when I first used the f4 , it was information overload, so many sounds, numbers everywhere.. now its full on speed metal detecting, with not alot of junk.. theres too much stuff to find!

I will start now. Can go deeper but too deep for my digging tools and too deep for my fingers. need a longer chisel. Can go below my easy dig range/depth. I'm going to work out where to set the gain to keep me in the F2 depth/easy dig range. Elliptical coil may be harder to PP ,give me some more time on this. Will see what depth and control I can get on the beach.
might go Deep on places that may hold silver coins i.e. pre decimal. And I could go gold detecting with it. will give you max NZ coil results Tomorrow

Hi Alimo,

Im the new owner of your F2 :) thanks for all your tips. gotta say im very happy with it so far, perfect as a first detector. Ive only clocked about 5 or 6 hours on it so far, but have already found all the decimal coins from 1cent throught to the 2 dollar, silver ring and junk rings and a mobile phone battery hehe. Using your advice, I would say ive only been digging up trash 1 out of about 7 targets. Still to try turf areas and beach spots.

Good luck with the F5, keep us posted.
