F2 in a cornfield

bobrob

New member
I would like to know how much depth I can get with my F2 hunting in a cornfield that has been harvested but still has stalks. The area is I am told by some old timers in the area and confirmed by others to be the site of a WW11 German prisoner of war camp. The lived in tents and worked in the area farms. If anybody has had experience in this area, I would like some advice. I am new at this hobby. Thanks for any help.

Hi Bobrob, have had no experience in cornfields but have detected on land with wheatstalks which caused a few problems due to the 8" coil giving false signals every time it bumped off hard stuff. I found most bits about 4" down but that could have been due to mineralisation, lots of cow pats and cow urine which appears to effect F2 also for some reason!! If you have a 4" coil you should find this better for working amongst the stalks but depth is lessened. Try burying coins at various depths in field you intend to search to get an idea of what you can expect. A lot will depend on the soil make up and composition. Sounds like a great area to detect with lots of history attached. Best of luck and enjoy your new hobby and keep us posted with your experiences (good and bad).

I just recently got a F2 you can get a deal on em with 4,8,and 10 inch coil in some places.Mine came with the 4and 8 inch coil plus pinpointer. It goes 6 inches deep no problem. i like it better than my $ 500 Deleon. My Deleon has too be used 4-5 inches above the ground to work thats how sensitive it is.But it doesn't like high mineral ground etc. When ground has moisture in it then F2 goes down there. The VDI ID is pretty good also.I like mine for the money.

The F2 has great depth. The only thing is fringe targets will register as iron so you will not be able to dics out iron . My son and I have compared numerous targets and the F2 will register iron when it is a good target. My son likes the 4 inch coil due to the weight if you are using the 8 inch you might get better target response. Bang for the buck the F2 is a good machine

Take care
Bob
