F2 or Silver U max

Hello everyone,, I'm really posting this for the wife who is getting her 1st machine and we have narrowed it down to the F2 or the Tesoro Silver U Max.. now I am a Tesoro Fan and I never used or even saw a fisher so I wont be bias on this because she THINKS she wants a machine that has a screen and will tell her what she found and how deep it is and take the mystery out of it I guess.. I posted this for her to see what the F2 users think of the F2 only because I'm sure both are great entry level machines,, now I know nothing about using a fisher so it would need to be VERY user friendly for someone who never used a detector in the past.

I understand this is the Fisher forum so because I did ask this in Tesoro I felt it would be right to also ask this in Fisher's F forum ,,,, so in a nut shell do you think I should get her the fisher F2 if it was you would you buy it, those of you who stilluse one are ARE YOU HAPPY WITH THE F2 ???? ..,

yeah if i was going to get my wife a md it would be a f2, there very easy to use light and balanced the only downside is they use 2 9 volts batterys you will want to get some good rechargable batterys if she uses it alot. if you can afford to get a better machine the f70 is light and powerfull and not to hard to learn and if she really gets into it you wont need to upgrade for a long time good luck hh
 
Both are capable machines with fast responce and are light weight. I'm a tone hunter so the F2 gets the nod there, it has more adjustments than the Silver, a nice notch disc, and it has a VID. The Silver Umax is a bit easier to learn since it has less adjustments and it might have a slight edge on depth. My personnal preference would be the F2. See if you can try them at a dealer or if you belong to a club , borrow one.
 
thank you,, theres no clubs here and the only dealer I know of that has a retail store only has like 2 whites detectors because its a hobby shop with other stuff non related but he is only a hites dealer, did see a couple guys with minelabs but I don't really want any mind labs I'll take a Blisstool but thats a whole other discussion.

after I show her all these posts I'll let her check out both models on Y-tube to see them in action and then decide from there.. I'm happy there was nothing negative on the F2 though thats the most important.

A friend of mine has used f2 as his primary machine for several years. You would be amazed with the depth the 11"dd coil adds to this detector. Its lightning fast seperation is really good and vdi is able to lock at good depths. I got to use it while waiting on my t2 for a couple of days and it was light and well balanced. Really fun to use. If im not mistaken u can still buy it with an assortment of coils at a really good price. I plan on getting my son one for christmas. Super value at any price. Hope this helped
 
If ur talkin about the 11" coil its an option as part of a package.

The only way to get one with a push in connector is to get a used one, only the early production models had that. ALL the later production units have the screw on connector. The F2 I had had the screw in connector, I didn't like it because the housing was designed for the push in and the same location and the same room maked the screw in connector really hard to connect and disconnect.
If the company was going to change the connector design then they should have modified the control housing for the new design.

Mark that stinks and the 1st I heard that,,,, well I ordered hers today and I got the F2 with the 2 coil package because I really wanted to keep it the same stuff the people on the F2 vids where using so she knew exactly what to expect.. if this hobby ends up taking off with her I'll make sure she has whatever upgrades or machine she wants so if the 11" coil is a must I'll get it for her but for now she just needs to find something.

something I never read or asked yet here But if its raining can you stay out with the machine,,,, can it get wet?
 
The coil is water proof, but not the control housing. The F2 is a nice machine and very easy to use. It's a coin magnet :)
 
The f2 is a great machine. My son pulls lots of coins with it and he's 9. Dig SOLID tones and high numbers in the beggining. The 4inch coil gets really close to objects that are big metal like poles and back stops. It should find jewelry and silver if she swings over it.
 
BUT the Silver Umax has a higher frequency/kHz does it not? And the F-2 is only 5.5kHz.
That extra kHz can make a difference, or am I mislead here.

The lower frequency hits harder on high conductors like silver, higher frequencies hit better on the lower conductors like nickle and gold. In my experiences detecting the lower frequency machines are fine on ring size gold jewelry, so not much to worry about really. If you were prospecting for tiny nuggets it would be more of a concern.

I have a Compadre and a Vaquereo...even a higher frequencies than the silver and have found a bunch with both of them.
I also own an F2 and have used it more than my other 2 for most of the summer..
Sure the F2 is a lower frequency but I say so what.
Coins..it will find them as well as just about anything out there.
Silver coins, I have found them with the F2 along with a bunch of other silver targets big and small.
Now the higher the frequency the better on gold is what I think you are referring to, I assume.
On gold flakes or really tiny nuggets I have know idea how the F2 will fare, but on regular gold targets like rings, there will be no problem finding those with the F2.
I just found 3 nice ones within the last week with mine, and a few others in the past with it, also.

I have learned the F2 pretty well, any detector will find all kinds of great stuff if you put in the time to learn it's language.
 
I had the F2 as a back-up machine for my X-Terra 705 then as a back-up for my ETrac, before I sold it and got an AT Pro as back up (for those rainy days and beach/water hunting). My GF used the F2 a few times and loved it. The whole Fisher F line are deep detectors. I took the F2 out some time instead of my main and had a blast and found some great stuff...
3 things I likes about the F2....
#1 super fast response!
#2 the TDI numbers are darn accurate for a machine under $200!
#3 the pinpointing was spot on every time! plugs the size of a soup can. My GF liked it cause she hates digging...LOL
never had a Tesoro, but the F2 is definately overrated and a hot hot hot little machine!
