F5 coil on f70?

Will the coils from an F5 work on the F70? I have looked on here but I can't find if it does or does not for sure.
Thanks

Mike Hillis tried the elliptical concentric from an F5 on an F70 or maybe an F75 and it worked pretty good he says.
Like me he is a big jewelry hunter and the tones, response and everything about this coil is so perfectly suited for all hunting but especially jewelry...it is a bit different than using the DD's and I love using all of them but if I was in intense jewelry mode in non trashy sites the concentric is what I would choose also.
As good as it was and even though it did work well for the most part he knew that the frequency differences still might affect the response, tones and everything else and was probably not totally optimal as the same coil built for the higher frequency unit would be.
Kinda like buying an outboard engine for a decent sized boat that is too small...it will work and push the boat around but the correct sized motor would be much more efficient and ultimately better.
He found out what he needed to know when he mounted the F5 coil and then he went out and bought the correct frequency range coil for optimum performance after.

If you already own the F5 coil use it, if you are looking to purchase one opt for the correct F70/F75 version for the best results.

So the F75 coils are interchangeable with my F70? Even 11 inch DD coil? Thanks

Yes...both are built on the same platform and are exactly the same frequency so all coils switch between these two and will work optimally.
I have a used F75 11" DD coil for my F70 and use it all the time.
Depth, performance and the finds it has gotten me in all sorts of sites and conditions have been much more than the word amazing can convey.

Your not going to believe this but its true. I just called First Texas products and ask to speak to a technician. They passed me to guy that sounded like he spoke Spanish. I asked him and he said no but let me make sure. In a bit he came back and said no they want interchange. Can you believe that. Its true.

If you asked about the F5 coils working on an F70 they might not have ever tried it and just going by the specs I can see where some there could just form that opinion.
That is the problem with talking to different people, even techs at company headquarters, the level of training and information they possess might be different from one to another.

For years you could have called them up and asked the simple question about if the ground balance settings transfer over to disc from all metal on the F4.
Depending on who you talked to you would get both yes and no answers...mostly yes.
The answer is actually no but a few that tried to correct them always got shot down and the misinformation that was passed on by the clueless ones caused much confusion on most of the forums for a long time.
Members called them before buying an F4, were told that it did and came back and posted and were convinced everyone on the forums that said it didn't transfer were wrong.
The factory said it so it had to be true, they thought.
Might still be happening now for all I know.

As always get more than one opinion if you can about anything and still take it all with a grain of salt sort of thing.

No i asked if the f75 coils would work on the f70.

Then that is just...sad.
They should probably not let the cleaning crew or warehouse workers answer the phone over there anymore.

Depends on what you mean by "work". Responding to some of the questions and comments in this thread:

1. F75 and F70 searchcoils are interchangeable.

2. T2 coils are their own animal, will not work at all on anything else (or vice versa).

3. F5 uses the "Greek" ("Fratbros") searchcoil series. These are wired the same as the F75/70 searchcoils but are electrically different. Even though some customers have tried searchcoils from one series on a machine designed for the other series and decided that they "work", the factory is not going to say that they "work' because we know there is performance degradation whether or not the customer knows (or even cares) about that.

4. The legacy BH coil series was also used on the Fisher F2 and F4. Although these may plug into F75/70 and Greek/Fratbros machines and actually beep, performance is severely degraded.

5. The 19 kHz machines (Gold Bug and others derived from that platform) are designed specifically to use the DD searchcoils of the Greek/Fratbros series. Depending on the individual searchcoil, a concentric may work fairly well or not at all or anything in between.

6. In general, plugging the wrong searchcoil into a metal detector is not going to cause any damage to the detector although we cannot guarantee a thing like that.

There ya go JJames...that was Dave Johnson chiming in, one of the top engineers at FTP...in the entire industry, actually.
His ideas, designs and knowledge are a huge part of many of the tools we use today over a large spectrum of brands and detectors going back decades.
He and his opinions have always been an island of true, sane and logical knowledge in the sea of rumors and uncertainties that we swim in.

Thanks woof!
