f5 finds the fake!

I had the experience today of holding a "fake" 1924 peace dollar andan original! The store keeper told me that one was real and one was fake.....and ask could I tell for certain which was which? I examined both and he even dropped both to check the sounds. After inspecting both I said I could identify with 100%certainty the "real deal". He said prove it! I simply went and got the f5, set the gain low, thresh @ 0 , and maxed the disc. , 3 tones! He placed each under a short stack of magazines...one gave a high pitch but showed only a low 70's number. The other showed a 88and a 92 on vid and darn near popped my ear drums! I let him see and hear the difference and we both said this was the best to quickly find out if a coin was real! I learned something today.........buyer beware, beware, beware!

Didja tell him the high screamer was the fake, and offer him 10 dollars for it?

And where are these fake silver dollars coming from?........like all the other fake goods, from handbags to pharmaceuticals.........China:(

I ran into this in the archives and I collect coins and silver too.
The majority of silver and gold fakes are coming from china. ebay members even warn of buying from sellers in china.

The best way to find a suspected fake is to weigh it ! Web sites all around with correct numbers.

Just make sure you don't try checking with a machine faked from China. I hear they are sending us those too. They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. There are exceptions to every rule, too. What a world! plastic surgery, plastic everything no wonder I love metal detecting. Now I have to look for funny money, too. Is there nothing we can put our faith in? Well, there is that! :clapping:
